Well, three guesses what this paragraph will be. Monday, Prime/Luna for June is here; there was an Access-Ability showcase, as well as Summer Game Fest. Tuesday, Day of the Devs up next, then Southeast Asian Games, followed by Xbox. Wednesday, Nintendo held a Direct that totally no one knew about, Wholesome was just that, and the Future Games Show was stupidly long. Thursday, if you cut the John Ritter impression, the PC Gaming Show was fine, also, it is the month of Gayming Pride. Last Friday, Alexx also covered LAGS, and I covered the Women-Led Games show for this year’s faux-E3.

On to the Epic Games Store and the last thing I’m writing for a day or two. I think we’ll start with The Ouroboros King, a Chess game that thought, “You know what isn’t in every single game ever right now? Rogue elements. Let’s make a Chess Rogue-like.” I also know about Gambonanza, but I just don’t get this idea to reinvent the wheel by adding spinning rims, especially when it is something so visually simplistic. I’m not saying Oriol Cosp Games’ title is bad; I’m just sick of “Rogue-like” or “Souls-like” being the default for all games now.
Speaking of which, let’s move to the mobile offering this week, Gambrinous’ 2015 title, Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition. The pencil drawing turn-based dungeon-crawling deck-building Rogue-like RPG (indie dev wet dreams) that was popular for maybe 7 months, and I’ve rarely heard about it since. A fine game, rightfully praised when and where it needs to be, but this is my problem; many of these good Rogue-likes are fine, but you forget about them as quickly as you forget about the gear in your last run. Visually interesting, but I can’t say I’m excited enough to go play Guild of Dungeoneering on my phone.

I’m already going to be beaten to death with sticks for this if I go outside, I might as well finish the job. Released last year by Caged Element, Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks is a vehicle combat game set in a fantasy universe of green men (and women, unless they’re like Moclans) with big teeth and a bad attitude. Aside from being the world’s most average game, Mad Max does a better job of car combat and people with poor hygiene. I say that because it is the apocalypse, not because they’re weird and like Cricket down there.
All this week, you can pick up Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks, The Ouroboros King, and Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition on the Epic Games Store, the latter on the Epic Games Store for mobile, until the 18th. Now all the sales nonsense is done, and the digital shelves are hopefully dusted; moving on to next week, we make like ITV doing an omnibus of a police procedural and have a double Bill. For those keeping track, yes, Simon Fredholm’s Robobeat is an action Rogue-like, but at least Jump Over The Age’s Citizen Sleeper isn’t.
