Summer Game Fest weekend is in full swing, and one of my favorite parts of this time of year is the Xbox Games Showcase! This year’s event was promised to be a big one seeing as Asha Sharma, the new Xbox CEO, would be looking to make a big splash in her first showcase at the helm. We’re going to run down everything featured in the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, so if you missed it, you’re in the right place. Let’s start with where the green gaming company began, a look at Gears of War: E-Day.
To start the show, we got a look at Gears: E-Day, including a pretty substantial gameplay demo. We got a look at Emergence Day as Dom and the crew begin to bring the fight back to the Horde upon their terrifying revival. One of the staples I recall from this series is the addictive cover shooting system, and it’s on full display in the trailer. It also looks significantly more colorful than the original games, which tended to be a bit neutral and gray, more so than vibrant.
We will get our hands on Gears of War: E-Day on October 6, 2026. Even more interestingly, the game will be an Xbox console exclusive, a retreat from the previous policy of bringing games to PlayStation consoles. I think the move to go exclusive again makes little sense when Xbox has such a large market share. Unfortunately, I don’t see Gears of War as a console seller in 2026, but I’d love to be wrong about this for the sake of competition in the console market. Sharma came on screen next to announce and signal that it’s time for a return to Xbox’s core principles and games.
We already learned in the past weeks that Fable would be coming on February 23, 2027, a slight delay from its original Fall 2026 release date. In the trailer, we saw more of the characters who make up the game’s dynamic cast. We’ve gotten so many looks at this game that I can’t imagine we need any more to sell people on the franchise’s return. It looks amazing, seems to expand on what the original Fable games offered, and could give Xbox another major player in their lineup.
On June 28, Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to release. There will be new missions, as we saw in the trailer, and Xbox claims it has been built “from the ground up.” This seems to be the case visually, as the game hasn’t looked better. Even in the Master Chief Collection, the age of the first Halo game was evident. Now, we have a refreshed game. Still no word on any multiplayer elements, unfortunately, which will likely be left out of this experience.
Next up, a release date and reveal trailer for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Set 15 years before Requiem, play as Sophia, a fierce young plunderer, on the run and determined to uncover the secrets of her past. I love the games in this series, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this when the game releases on August 27, 2026. The game will also come to Game Pass on day one.
Huge news for RPG fans – Persona 4 Revival is way closer than I would have guessed, with an Xbox Games Showcase 2026 reveal date of February 18th, 2027! The remake looks incredible, and I never played this one, so I’m jumping in for sure. Good news for Game Pass subscribers: this game is releasing on Day One for Ultimate subscribers.
My most anticipated Xbox title was up next: State of Decay 3. The zombie apocalypse nearly wiped out humankind. Years after the initial outbreak, carve out a life for yourself in a world gripped by blood plague. Per the press release, players will collaborate as a community of survivors, build up their settlements with friends, and destroy zombies in the latest in the franchise from developer Undead Labs.
State of Decay 2 is my favorite game of the last generation, and I’m hopeful this one expands the amazing survival crafting experience with plenty of zombie-killing action in between. Next, we got a gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, which is set to release in February 2027, and a look at a new sandbox creator mode for Sea of Thieves. We also saw a nice first look at Bad Magpie, a day-one Game Pass release, in which a little bird does a bunch of not-so-good stuff similar to Untitled Goose Game. We saw our first look at Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, as well as a fun cult simulator called Join Us.
Next up, my favorite reveal of the showcase. Senua is the next entry in the Hellblade franchise, but with a much more action-oriented approach to gameplay. I feel like Hellblade 2 was one of the best-looking games I’ve played this console generation, but I never think about it because it offered so little to actually do while playing. I’m going to be totally honest, it looks like they’re pulling heavily from a God of War remake kind of camera work and combat, and I think it’s the right move. This series should be giving us more to do, so we feel compelled to live in its unique, disturbing world.
After a nice look at the newest update for Fallout 76 called Infestations, we saw some new DLC for DOOM: The Dark Ages called Revelations, which will release on July 7th. Truly, The Dark Ages is a masterpiece in a franchise known for solid releases. It’s so fun to run around and kill demons with that shield, and more of that is always going to be welcome in my house.
Next up, a story-driven take on the iconic arcade racer Crazy Taxi: World Tour. In this new high-octane adventure, you’ll play as Axel as he chases down the mysterious masked villains who stole his beloved taxi. While doing the same old Crazy Taxi nonsense, you’ll travel around the world and work to make a serious amount of cash while also getting your car back.
A not-so-fun fact we learned after the showcase: this game uses generative AI, according to SEGA. The statement reads, “We have used such generative AI support tools during the development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.” This is a recap, so we’re not going to spend time on that now, but I have thoughts.
After a look at a 25th anniversary Xbox console called the Xbox Series 25 and a Fall 2026 release trailer for Age of Empires 4: Raiders of the North, we got our first look at the rumored Minecraft Dungeons 2. Arriving on September 26, 2026, this game will take us back to the dungeon-crawling journey of the first entry with more enemies and weapons to enjoy. The first Minecraft Dungeons was a real surprise to me, and I’m excited to give this one a go later this year.
My non-Xbox-developed game of the show was our next trailer: the magic action game Magicians: The Devil’s Deal. This game is made by Uppercut Games, a team consisting of developers who made the underrated game City of Brass, as well as Submerged. It’s leading with some heavy Dishonored and Bioshock vibes, and looks like your attacks are all based in magic powers, both in the wizard and traditional show magician sense.
A new trailer for the game Valor Mortis was shown, along with a September 24 release date and a day-one Game Pass announcement. We also saw a fun trailer bringing the Thieves Guild to The Elder Scrolls Online. Finally, before the last round of reveals for the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 event, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is getting National Parks content along with a new racing competition.
In what felt like the start of the grand finale for the showcase, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse got a great trailer and an October 15, 2026 release date. The game looks like all of the great modern roguelikes releasing as of late. Studio Mayflower then revealed Vivarium, a Ghibli-inspired cozy game releasing in 2027 and day one on Game Pass.
Finally, we got the announcement of Persona 6. There is no release date for this entry in the iconic series, although Atlus did reveal on social media after the Showcase that the franchise has now sold over 30 million copies to date. The Persona 4 remake that received an earlier release date will have to satisfy us for now, as I would imagine we won’t see Persona 6 until 2028. Just a hunch; I have no actual information. Still, it’s insane to think we’re getting the next entry after years and years of milking Persona 5 for all its worth.
Finally, we’re getting a new Spyro game! Ever since the Activision acquisition, I couldn’t believe that Microsoft wasn’t tapping Toys for Bob to make the next entry. Some kids loved Super Mario 64, some loved Banjo-Kazooie, and I was convinced Spyro 1-3 were the greatest games ever made when I was in 2nd grade. Not to over-analyze the trailer, but we appear to see Spyro fly at will, which is a massive step up from the gliding he does in the other games. I hope we see this next year, but it might be two years away depending on Xbox’s release schedule and development time.
We also saw Clockwork Revolution again, another Xbox Console Exclusive, along with Gears of War: E-Day. We’ve heard tell of this game at many Showcases leading up to today, so a 2027 release year announcement was a bit of a disappointment. I would have loved a soft summer date for next year, but an extended story trailer was nice.
To close, we got an extended look at DMZ returning in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. A lot of Xbox fans are going to be upset that Microsoft is ending the showcase with Call of Duty, but they spent so much and made so much money on this game, it’s an understandable way to close out the show.
