Kingdom Hearts Collection I-III (Switch 2) Review

Technically, the Nintendo Switch did let players play Kingdom Hearts. In the days of Nintendo’s handheld-home hybrid console testing the waters of cloud gaming, it was possible to play versions of the Square Enix games via stable, strong internet. Now, with the…

Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition (Switch 2) Review

When Dragon Quest XI was released in 2017, it was my first foray into the historic Japanese RPG franchise. It feels like forever ago, especially since the game was released on the 3DS rather than a home console. Now, the home-and-handheld console split…

Montabi (Switch 2) Review

With Pokémon in limbo due to a string of releases that have not gone as well as expected and the competition that popped up via Palworld, the crown for monster-fighting games is seemingly up for grabs. This rare opening has given a…

Starsand Island (Switch 2) Review

In 2024, a Chinese developer called Seed Sparkle Lab launched a Kickstarter campaign to develop a farming sim with deeper life-sim elements. Coupled with an anime aesthetic, the developer sought to have players write their own “life story” through how they spend…

Digital board games are pretty hit-or-miss, depending on how well they translate the core game to the screen. For Monopoly, the iconic game has often been better on the table, but a new twist on its core mechanics and game loop is…

Rhythm Heaven Groove (Switch 2) Review

In 2002, a tech demo for a drum kit on the Game Boy Advance slowly began to take shape as another project with much loftier ambitions. After working on the WarioWare series, developer Kazuyoshi Osawa proposed his idea for a rhythm game that…
