Konami, Square Enix, and plenty of first-party studios showed up for the latest PlayStation showcase of upcoming projects. We had a couple of really fun reveals, plus major release date announcements, so it’s time to talk about what we saw. We have your Sony State of Play September 3 rundown all ready, so let’s jump into the show’s recap!

I would have lost this bet, but we actually kicked things off with an exclusive clip from Resident Evil, the upcoming Zach Cregger adaptation. The director of Barbarian and the Oscar-winning Weapons is on record that this is not an adaptation of a game plot, but more so a spiritual interpretation. The film comes out September 18th, and I’ll be there opening night. Maybe a good excuse for what might be my first movie review on Phenixx Gaming!

Next, we dive right into the big upcoming exclusive that Sony has for September: Marvel’s Wolverine. The trailer showed off some Sentinels, a little co-op action with Sabretooth, and more of that signature snarl we love from the clawed hero. If you’re into comics or Insomniac games, you’re likely already on board, but it’s fun to see this included here.

We move on to Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, launching on October 1st, 2026, for PlayStation 5. I mentioned in my Most Anticipated PS5 Releases for Fall 2026 article that a complete edition of this game is a welcome offering for those who didn’t get to it yet. The game will come with a brand-new roguelike mode, Most Wanted, which we see in the video above. Nice surprise: Jin Sakai, the main playable character in Ghost of Tsushima, will be playable in the game mode.

An expansion to one of my favorites from last year, Monster Hunter Wilds, got a DLC trailer for the upcoming release, Ascendance. In my Monster Hunter Wilds review, I seemed to be a bit higher on it than others. That’s really because I’m just as much of a fan of Rise as I am of Worlds, and I feel like Monster Hunter Wilds blurs the two together masterfully. Granted, I haven’t revisited it much, so the DLC is a great excuse.

Next, Metro: 2039 got a PS5 Pro gameplay trailer, which looked wonderful. A little reminder that this team has been working on this game, 4A Games, literally continued development through the Russian-Ukrainian War. The game finally gets its release date in this trailer, so we can expect to get behind the controller with this one on February 4th, 2027.

I said out loud, “Sure, why not?” when this one came up next. Maneater is a perfectly fun experience, and I hope a sequel can build on the chaos with tighter controls and a little more room for creativity. We can terrorize unsuspecting swimmers and beach-goers in 2027.

One of the biggest games of 2026 is Crimson Desert, and it’s finally time for some DLC! Post-launch, the game needed quite a bit of fine-tuning, so it’s good to see that not only do people love it, but the team is now building on its grand scope. Chartering the Unknown comes out October 15th, 2026.

Not a video game, but certainly something video game fans will want to consider adding to their game area. Later this year, we’ll see the release of a LEGO PlayStation. It’s a nearly 1:1 recreation with over 1,900 pieces.

I shouted Final Fantasy Resonance out in my Most Anticipated Switch Releases for Fall 2026, but it’s also coming out for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A demo is live now, and it looks wonderful. Definitely going to scratch that itch that Octopath Traveler 0 left on me last year.

We knew Gundam Rogue Orbit was coming next year, but we didn’t know when. If you’re me, you forgot this got announced, got really excited, and then remembered we did, in fact, know about this exciting project. Either way, the trailer looks amazing, and we’ll get to play the game next year when it launches on March 5th, 2027.

Ready for an indie game speedrun? Firstly, we’re going to get Hunter’s Moon, a first-person historical folk horror game coming to PS5 on October 26th, 2026.

Next, Annapurna’s Uncanyon, a top-down puzzle adventure game, will release in 2027.

Rounding out the indie speedrun is Double Fine’s Keeper, fresh off the studio’s exit from Xbox Game Studios. It’s out today, and well worth your time if you didn’t check it out on Game Pass.

We moved next to the 2027 title Rev. Noir from Konami. This RPG was shown earlier this year, and is looking great in PS5 Pro footage featured during the September 3rd Sony State of Play.

Another Konami joint, Rhapsody in Scarlet got an announcement trailer next. A third-person action game, it looks to have a really interesting art style and some really wild scenes, like riding water creatures, and seems to be that gorgeous, over-the-top presentation Konami really nails.

We followed Konami’s games with a look at Saros – Zenith, the new game mode for the Housemarque title from earlier this year. The update is free, and features new replayable game modes and various new visual and control options to make the game accessible to even more players.

Another major update followed Saros, and it takes us to Sony’s long-running racing series. Gran Turismo 7’s Spec IV update is launching in two parts later this year. The game is getting new circuits, new cars, a Family Mode, and more features. These updates will be released in October and December of 2026.

Next, an exciting trailer for Until Dawn 2. The Dead True ghost-hunting crew are chasing their biggest story yet. After an investigation at Blackwood Sanitorium takes a chilling turn, an encounter with supernatural survivor Yoona leads them to Akishima Island, a remote paradise abandoned for decades and hiding secrets far older than any of them imagined. Like the first game, player choices will help determine how the story plays out. This game is set to release soon, with pre-orders now open for the January 26th, 2027 release date.

Anyone hoping to get Grand Theft Auto VI news today felt the monkey’s paw curl on this next reveal.  Limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers launch in conjunction with GTA6 on November 19, priced at $84.99 USD.

The final trailer was redemptive after the controller announcement. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming next spring, but now we know when! 10 minutes of gameplay footage concluded with the news that we’ll get the end of this remake trilogy on April 8th, 2027.
