Not to alarm anyone, but there’s only one PC offering for this week. Monday: Bladesong chapter 3 was released and I’ll still stab Billy and Mandy’s pal, while someone’s been listening to Jane’s Addiction at Gamescom. Tuesday, Holstin looks cool; while it’s not Dog’s Life, Hubert got a release date, and Into the Fire got a new playtest trailer. Wednesday, Humble Choice keeps putting Jeffrey to shame; there is another showcase for Spanish/LATAM devs, and more “sorting slop” got a release date with Game Shelver 99. Thursday, Cassette Beasts 2002 got a release window for next year.

Moving on to the Epic Games Store, and as I said at the start, there is only really one game for PC. Alone With You is an adventure game released in 2017 at the height of “I want to make something emotional like Journey and Firewatch,” albeit with a pixel art, visual novel, sci-fi aesthetic this time out. Short, sweet, and something you need to be in the mood for. Highly praised, but Alone With You is certainly not one for everyone.

If that wasn’t enough of a “meh” week, the offering for mobile this week is Maitan69’s 2020 puzzle platformer, Evan’s Remains. Generally praised by those just looking for something that’s made with some competence, there are those of us who are a bit more critical (hi, I’m the problem; it’s me) who will tell you there isn’t much to it. If you are expecting a masterpiece out of a puzzle platformer that isn’t dripping from everyone’s lips, then I think you’re putting too much pressure on Evan’s Remains. It is alright, and it is ok for games to be alright sometimes. Doesn’t excuse playing games on mobile, though.

All this week, you can pick up both Alone With You and Evan’s Remains on the Epic Games Store until the 10th of September; the latter is for mobile only. Moving on to next week, it is scraping the bottom of the 2022 Prime Gaming barrel, as we once again have to talk about the arcade bullet-hell pixel-art Nazi shoot ’em up, Luftrausers. Defend a World War II war boat from the Luftwaffe. Meanwhile, after being humped by Hearts last night, Hibernian Workshop will be offering the action hack-and-slash Rogue-lite game, Astral Ascent. Also, that second goal should have stood.
