Game Shelver 99 Gets Release Date

You know, I can’t shake the feeling that this trend of indie game developers giving their games obnoxiously long titles entirely ignores the plight of game reviewers who have to contend with character limits. Case in point: a press release has just arrived on my metaphorical desk announcing the upcoming Game Shelver 99: I must organize my Steam Library and defend it against pirates with a shotgun, developed and published by Prof. Scherer. There is no way on Earth I’m writing out that full title more than once, so I will henceforth call it simply “Game Shelver 99” for short.

The press release in question describes Game Shelver 99 as a “PC title blending cozy tidy-up of a player’s own Steam games with fast-paced first-person shooter mechanics. Set in the golden era of 1999, Game Shelver 99 puts players in the shoes of a proud PC game store owner. The goal? Meticulously organize physical game boxes based on the games they own on Steam onto designated shelves. The catch? A crew of menacing software pirates is set on invading the store, stealing games, and scattering the carefully organized shelves across the floor.” Yar-har, fiddle dee dee, this double-barreled is alright with me!

Game Shelver 99 touts the following features within that same press release: “Procedural store layout and procedural categorization challenges based on your games collection, with multiple correct solutions for high replayability,” a “peaceful mode” that lets you focus entirely on organizing rather than shooting pirates in addition to that, and online co-op supporting up to four players. I can’t help but be reminded of Game Quest: The Backlog Battler, a game with a similar idea whose Next Fest demo I covered ages ago. At the time of writing, Game Shelver 99 can be wishlisted on Steam now and is scheduled to launch on November 17, 2026.
