Back-to-school items are back in stores, August is nearly here, and that means that summer is slowly passing us by. With a great fall of games on the horizon, I’m going to take a look at all three major consoles and talk about my most anticipated releases for each. We’re kicking off with what has become my go-to gaming console: the Nintendo Switch 2! Here are my most anticipated Switch and Switch 2 releases for Fall 2026.

Orbitals – September 3rd

Okay, let’s save the arguments over whether early September is fall for another article. I want to think of this release from Kepler Interactive as the kickstart to the fall gaming season, and you can’t stop me. Orbitals captures the warmth and style of classic Japanese anime from decades past with a Hazelight Studios-like emphasis on co-op gaming and puzzle-solving. I think there’s a chance this is a sleeper hit for the Switch 2 this fall in an already packed year for the console.

It’s worth noting that, similar to games like It Takes Two, there is not a single-player experience included in Orbitals. As someone who usually games solo, that’s just a good excuse to try to convert a friend or family member who doesn’t usually play games into a believer. I’ve done it with co-op-centric games in the past, and if Orbitals is as good as it looks in trailers, I bet I can do it again this September.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse – October 15th

Castlevania’s iconic whip action is snapping into consoles and PC this October, and I can’t wait to play this on my Switch. I owned Dead Cells from developer Motion Twin on my OG Switch, and it tops almost any indie I played on the console. The studio is advising on this game after a successful Castlevania collab in Dead Cells, and I think it’s just what the franchise needs for a big return.

Trevor Belmont, the hero who defeated Dracula, ventures into the burning streets with his daughter, Rose Belmont, the latter of whom we spend the game playing as in Belmont’s Curse. Trapping enemies we defeat into a tarot deck, weapons spanning seven distinct categories, and legendary bosses including Death, Medusa, and Carmilla set this up to be an all-timer for the historic series. As of now, we don’t have a Nintendo Switch 2 version announced, which is a bit disappointing, but maybe it’ll come as a free update post-launch.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort – October 22nd

Just because it’ll be fall doesn’t mean we can’t plan a tropical getaway this October. Anyone down for a return to Wuhu Island? Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is set to feature 12 sports, including many returning from the Wii title. Utilizing the Joy-Con 2s and enhanced graphical power, I think this is going to be the party game of the 2026 holiday season for my family and friends.

I mean, bowling and boxing making a return is newsworthy enough, but every sport included in this new package gets me excited. Yes, that includes thumb wrestling. Sue me, but I like Nintendo making weird decisions on its games. Remember the COVID-era jump-roping game? Give me all the weird Nintendo you’ve got! Reminder for folks who haven’t made the transition to the new console: this is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Final Fantasy Resonance – October 22nd

Square Enix turned its mobile Octopath Traveler game into one of my favorite releases of 2025. I believe they can do it again with Final Fantasy Resonance. Full of characters and references to iconic games in the franchise, this is almost like a pixel-perfect ode to the series’ roots. I think there’s potential here, following the success of the Final Fantasy VII remakes, to give newer fans a glimpse of the original experience of this franchise. It could also help convince Square Enix we need more Final Fantasy games like this in the future.

This feels like a fan’s dream, with the RPG experience promising airships, crystals, espers, and moogles woven into the fabric of the story. There’s like a “everyone’s here” feeling to the trailer, including promises of favorites like Cloud Strife showing up. As the first HD‑2D Final Fantasy, this feels like a potential trial run to give Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy IX the pixel-3D hybrid art style its own remake. The game will release on Switch and Switch 2, giving players across the Nintendo family of consoles a chance to support this title.
