Monday, the only news piece that went out this week was my coverage of Secret Mode’s “Football Fiesta” sale, with lots of football-based games on sale and highlighted. I also used my time while watching every game of the World Cup to write up three lots of recommendations for demos/games to check out during the Steam Next Fest. Each article was on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with 30 options. If that’s not your thing, we also had an interview with Sean Velasco of Yacht Club Games, the studio behind Shovel Knight and the much-beloved Mina the Hollower.

Moving on to the Epic Games Store, I think we’re only covering two and a half of the games on offer this week. The mobile offering is supping from the golden chalice of tugging my Richard Nixon, and is worse than usual, which I say as someone who enjoys its PC counterpart. I am talking about Construction Simulator 3, the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe of the “crap German simulator” brand of games. Yet somehow looks worse.
We go from that to something I have had on my wishlist on Steam, but I can’t even find words for why I’d care for it in the first place. Simon Fredholm’s 2024 rhythm Rogue-lite shooter, Robobeat, is a rhythm action title with an art style I look at and wonder why it is so dull. If you like it, sure, but the highlighted enemies in the one other color in every screenshot aren’t too exciting. Trailers are more exciting, but that’s the thing about rhythm games, they tend to be when you can see that in action.

The other game on PC this week is a bit more visually interesting and, more importantly, interesting from a story standpoint too. Citizen Sleeper is that 2022 sudden hit from the developers of In Other Waters, set in space in the wake of hypercapitalism ruining everyone’s life (we’re getting close); you make decisions and complete actions based on stats you build up over time. It might seem lazy to say, but if you were a fan of Disco Elysium, then you’ll probably love Citizen Sleeper. Dialogue-heavy, dice rolls to complete actions, and RPG elements galore.
All this week, you can pick up Citizen Sleeper, Robobeat, and Construction Simulator 3 on the Epic Games Store, with the latter on mobile, until the 25th of June. This is your reminder that next week is the start of Steam’s big summer sale. On to next week here on the Epic Games Store, however, and it is a repeat with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, which will be joined at the very least by 2D action-platformer/Metroidvania, Voidwrought. Another that was on my wishlist for a while.
