I’ve never sat down and actually played Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. I love a good isometric Action RPG, but it just happens to be one of the few that have passed me by. Now, since the Gamescom reveal of Wolcen 2, the dev team has been hard at work getting ready for more public showcases of the game. It seems that fans don’t have too much longer to wait to check it out either.

November 26th will mark the start date of Wolcen 2’s second Closed Alpha playtest, according to a press release yesterday. The team at Wolcen Studio has worked hard to implement feedback from the first playtest and is ready for fans to check out their next playable build. Here is what the press release has to say about the latest announcement:

“Wolcen Studio has been hard at work following the successful gamescom 2026 reveal of Wolcen 2, the sequel to its 2020 isometric dark fantasy action RPG, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem. Today, the studio announced that Wolcen 2’s Closed Alpha 2 playtest begins on November 26.

With a community-driven ideology at its core, Wolcen 2 has grown significantly with the feedback received from the first Closed Alpha playtest in August. This is something the team has learned from its experience developing Wolcen 2’s predecessor, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem and the ExtrAction RPG Gods, Death & Reapers. As part of Wolcen Studio’s commitment to the community, the team has begun hosting Community FAQ’s on the Wolcen Studio YouTube channel.

Closed Alpha 2, available from November 26 to 30, brings a series of improvements to the overall combat feel and pacing, the Combat Mastery, and the Twilight Procession to provide more clarity on build paths and easier use, as well as a smoother UI and user experience based on player feedback. This playtest will also test a new Pistol Ability: Havoc Orb and a new Shadowform mechanic: Parasitic Shadows!

Those who wish to enter a world on the brink of collapse and face unspeakable horrors can register for Wolcen 2’s second Closed Alpha by registering at the Wolcen Studios Playtest Program website.

In Wolcen 2, enter a grim, dark fantasy world shaped by reality-bending powers. In your quest for freedom and redemption, you will encounter horrors beyond the rift that you can face alone, or with up to four players in co-op.

Staying true to its predecessor, this hack-and-slash action RPG features no predefined classes. Choose the weapons that suit your preferred playstyle, then unlock, customize, and master their abilities. As you develop passive talents and collect gear that supports your choices, your character gradually grows into an archetype of your own making. Build a melee mage, spellblade, tank caster, gunslinger, or an archetype entirely your own. Your identity evolves through the choices you make.”

It seems like there is a lot for fans to sink their teeth into with this upcoming playtest. I’m curious to see how it is received, though with as busy as things are right now, I probably won’t be able to try it out myself. Regardless, I look forward to seeing more as development continues. We don’t have anything close to a release date yet, but the devs hope to bring it to Steam Early Access in 2027.
