I love job simulators, and in other news, the sun is still in the sky, and the ocean still has a floating island of plastic in it. It is difficult to call this one a “cozy” simulator, though, even if the Steam blurb attempts it. Announced on Monday with about as much fanfare as you’d expect for another one, Quest Craft and PlayWay SA revealed Wasteland Gunsmith Simulator, a “cozy post-apocalyptic gunsmith simulator.” Quest Craft is the developer of Pizza Slice (which I need to get the review done for) and Ghost Keeper, which I can say the former certainly instills a hint of confidence in the project.
“Announced [on the 27th of July] for PC via Steam, this cozy management sim puts players in the boots of the wasteland’s most indispensable survivor: a traveling gunsmith. Operating out of a customized camper van, you’ll trade with faction mercenaries, local gangs, and lone wanderers who rely on your craftsmanship to survive another day,” notes the short press release.

It continues: “Instead of high-stress combat, the gameplay focuses on hands-on workshop physics and customization. Players scavenge for discarded scrap, unlock blueprints, and assemble fully modular firearms. Every component alters a weapon’s value, weight, and firing performance, allowing you to build everything from practical survival rifles to bizarre junk-punk creations. The job also demands restoration work: scraping away decades of rust, swapping worn firing pins, and repainting damaged relics to bring them back to working order.
As your reputation grows, you’ll drive your mobile rig across trading hubs, militia outposts, and hidden ruins. Expanding your workspace with specialized tools unlocks higher-tier commissions, giving you access to rare military scrap and dangerous, high-paying clients.“

Maybe a touch less about the crafting-from-scratch sense of gameplay from Sun and Serpent Creations’ Bladesong, but certainly one for the wannabe gunsmith in the wasteland of the hell we’re slowly marching towards. That said, when I first got the email for Wasteland Gunsmith Simulator, I did my usual: Run to Steam at a speed known as mach-jesus. Of course, with this being the announcement, there aren’t a massive amount of details going forward.
You can wishlist Wasteland Gunsmith Simulator on Steam right now, with a playtest to request access to as well. However, as far as a release date, we’re all in the dark on that one. I’m certainly excited for it, especially with that blend of Bladesong/Trash Goblin mechanics of building and restoring weapons in the endless hell of the post-apocalypse.
