As much as I distrust bureaucracy in most cases, even I have to admit that bureaucracy can occasionally be made more efficient. That’s exactly what’s begun to happen in Sintopia, a satirical middle-management simulator set in Hell. Developed by Piraknights Games and published by team17, Sintopia has just received its first major post-launch update, officially titled the “Imployee Retention Update.” Before you ask, no, that’s not a typo – as a middle manager of Hell, Inc., you’ll have to hire Imployees whose job it is to help squeeze the sin (and, thus, profit) out of mortal souls who wind up in Hell.

Sintopia is available now on Steam and has also launched on the Epic Games Store as of yesterday. From now until August 10th, 2026, Sintopia will be discounted by 20% on both platforms. Here is what a press release has to say about some of the changes and quality-of-life improvements added in the Imployee Retention Update: “The release of the Imployee Retention Update for both Steam and Epic means players will have new tools at their disposal to ‘assist’ souls in their care. The Souls Gate helps manage the traffic of wayward spirits, keeping them on track to their intended destination for a more expedient process.”

With the Ground Flattener and Souls Relocator, players can now permanently destroy annoying obstacles, and send souls back to the Hell Plaza without having to destroy any roads, all with the click (or two) of a button. Sintopia recruits players as middle managers of Hell Incorporated, with their sole purpose in the after-life being to ‘re-educate’ sinners, resurrect the worthy, and turn eternal damnation into a well-oiled business machine.” If you want more details about all the changes and additions contained within the Imployee Retention Update, you can check out the full patch notes here. Sintopia is available now on Steam and Epic.

David Sanders is, at his core, a man who's just trying to get through his game backlog before the heat death of the universe, and yet can't seem to stop adding to said game backlog. He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several notable RPGs and turn-based strategy titles. When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
