Stop me when you think I am listing buzzwords that could sell me a game: A Job simulator, military thing, lo-fi, and psychological horror. You couldn’t beat my priapism down with a hammer. Unbeknownst to about 99% of humanity, PC Gamer hosted a PC Gaming Show event during the Tokyo Game Show at the weekend, with the next game from Rubeki Games – developer of Lorn’s Lure – being not only revealed but also having a demo. Here is what the press release had to say about The Hollowing:

“The dev behind cult hit Lorn’s Lure (over 60,000 sold), Rubeki, just announced his next game [at the] PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct: [A]n atmospheric first-person horror flight sim called ‘The Hollowing.’ Your job is to maintain inter-settlement communications towers at various airports and outposts in the Megastructure. Think Iron Lung meets Flight Simulator. A free demo also just launched on Steam!“
Indeed, I’d also be asking who didn’t get paid time and a half for this. The press release does continue, however: “Set in the same universe as cult hit Lorn’s Lure, make your way across this vast and oppressive world accompanied only by the voice on the radio, and unravel the mysteries of the mist-shrouded Megastructure.”

Speaking more directly about The Hollowing itself, the press release goes on to say: “The Hollowing is an atmospheric first-person horror flight sim where you fly alone across a mist-shrouded Megastructure, accompanied only by the voice on the other end of your radio…
Set in the same universe as cult hit Lorn’s Lure, fly from post to post fixing inter-settlement communications towers at various airports and outposts, and unravel the mysteries of this not-quite-human world.

- An eerie horror flight sim from the creator of Lorn’s Lure.
- Master takeoff, landing[,] and navigation in your delicate craft.
- Unravel a mystery as you move from station to station.
- Megalophobes beware.“
Hastily written press release aside, The Hollowing is a weird, dark, horror-infused bit of intrigue for me. It has that faux early 3D gaming art style Dagger Directive has; your plane is very World War 2-themed, and the atmosphere is very oppressive, a bit like DREDGE. I like what it is going for. Better still, alongside the game’s announcement and Steam page noting a 2026 release window, there is a demo you can also check out right now.
