For starters, we now know one of the classes featured in the Evercold expansion for Final Fantasy XIV. Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed the first new job coming to Evercold will be Bastion. This job serves as a main tank that wields a pair of greatshields known as Skyltborg. In the new expansion, players will also have a taste of the new Auto Content Balancing. This difficulty-scaling setting will control enemy levels, adjusting to the appropriate player level as they play through dungeons in their chosen order.

Other fun announcements include an EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire raid in the game. Along with the tie-in for EVANGELION, we’ll also get another taste of some of our favorite characters from Final Fantasy VII in “Beyond the Lifestream,” an 8-player raid tied to Evercold. These fun events are nice, exciting options to fill out the upcoming expansion, along with a few features that aren’t gameplay-related. These include updates to chocobo companions and expanded matchmaking beginning with Japan in mid-October and North America and Europe to follow

This all comes at a great time for Nintendo gamers, as Final Fantasy XIV will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, with pre-orders available now on Nintendo eShop. This comes at a great time with the launch of Evercold, which will be getting a physical collector’s edition. The physical items include the Evercold Collector’s Bundle, which includes the Evercold Special Art Box, Expertly Crafted Reaper Figure, Ethos Metal Keychain, Köttr Mini Plush, and Tapestry of the Fourth.
