Sony has released their June State of Play and there were some awesome announcements. From Wolverine to God of War, Sony pulled out quite a few stops and showed some brand new intriguing titles to keep an eye out for. Without further ado, let’s dive in.
Sony’s presentation started off strong with a healthy dose of Wolverine gameplay. This trailer showcased all of the gory combat that we can expect, from the destruction of enemies through various combos to the chunks of missing flesh that can be seen on Logan depending on the situation he is in. There are definitely some similarities that can already be seen between Wolverine and the last three Spider-Man games. It is also clear that this will be a very different game from the open-world experience of swinging through New York City. Wolverine is set to release on September 15th, 2026.
Staying on the Marvel train, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls debuted a brand new team of characters coming to the game later this year: The Knights of Doom. This team features Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage. These four iconic characters are certainly adding their own unique flair to the game and are the second-to-last team to be announced. A fighting game in the same vein as Marvel VS Capcom that is sure to wow with spectacle, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls is set to release on August 6th, 2026.
Of all the game characters that I expected to see on the State of Play, Rayman was certainly not one of them. Rayman Legends Retold is a 3D reimagining (not a 3D platformer) of the 2013 game released on practically everything. It will be a bit longer before we see just how much this remake changes the original, but it won’t be long, as Rayman Legends Retold is set to release on October 1st, 2026.
A welcome surprise that came from State of Play was a brand-new game from the creators of Dave the Diver. Bancho the Chef focuses on Bancho, the serious and lovable chef, as we witness his origin story of how he learned to become the legendary cook. Bancho the Chef will be coming to PS5 and Steam soon and is available to be wishlisted.
A brand-new property that made quite the splash at the State of Play is Kemuri. In Kemuri, you are a Yokai Hunter who lives in a city where the world of the living and the world of spirits converge. You must hunt down the various Yokai within the city and gain their abilities by defeating them in combat. Kemuri doesn’t have a set release date, but it is supposed to come out sometime in 2027.
Lara Croft’s next adventure now has an official release date of February 12th, 2027. Another reimagining of a classic game on this list, Tomb Raider: Legend of Atlantis takes us back to the original game that was brought to consoles in 1996. Time will tell if this remake manages to capture the minds of a new generation of gamers.
Staying on the theme of dinosaurs, The Lost Wild was the next game shown at State of Play. This time, instead of an action adventure, we have a horror survival game. Set on an island dominated by dinosaurs, you play as Saskia as you attempt to make your way out of this dangerous game of cat and mouse. Seeming to be a blend of Jurassic Park and Alien Isolation, The Lost Wild will come crashing onto PlayStation 5 in 2027.
A unique action game in this lineup, Phantom Blade 0 has shown off a bit more of the story and given us a release date of September 8th, 2026. In Phantom Blade 0, you play as a warrior who must solve the mysteries surrounding his world before he leaves this world behind.
Finally making its console debut, Dune: Awakening, the survival multiplayer game set on Arrakis, is coming to PlayStation 5 on September 22nd, 2026. This release will coincide with a major update to the game that will add a single-player mode.
Another remaster coming to the PlayStation 5, Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered brings the 2001 game to modern consoles. With modern graphics and updated controls, this is sure to be a game that many millennials will enjoy returning to, and should be an opportunity for a new generation of gamers to discover. Dynasty Warriors 3 comes out on September 30th, 2026.
Coming out of early access and making its console debut, No Rest for the Wicked is set to be an absolute time sink, as there is supposedly 100 hours of content that will be available with this full launch. There is no solid release date yet, but the window that Moon Studios GmbH provided is October 2026.
Another game that has been showcased before, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, is right around the corner with a release date of September 25th, 2026. Being the first mainline entry in the Onimusha series since 2006, there is a lot riding on it to deliver a win for Capcom.
One of many Silent Hill projects that was announced a bit ago, Silent Hill: Townfall is set to release on September 24th, 2026. Just in time for the Halloween season, Silent Hill: Townfall is planning to bring a memorable and new experience to players. Considering the impact that the first two games had on the industry, we shall see if this holds true.
Another entry in the long-running series, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will bring a brand new campaign filled with different characters and new challenges as you fight as an ace fighter pilot looking to control the skies. Grab your helmet and prepare for combat as Ace Combat 8 comes to PlayStation 5 on October 1st, 2026.
When this trailer burst onto the screen, I honestly didn’t know what I was looking at. Stuntman Hollywood is a surprise sequel to the 2002 game made for the PlayStation 2. Similar to the first game, Stuntman Hollywood has you performing a variety of stunt scenarios, this time with licensed cars from iconic movie franchises, from Fast & Furious to Back to the Future. Stuntman Hollywood has no set release date, so we will have to wait another day for such news.
A brand new world of horror is planned to open up in 2027 when Ill arrives. New developers Team Clout sets up a creepy world where you are trapped in a fort overrun by a mysterious entity. A gruesome dismemberment system and terrifyingly strange enemies are just a few of the offerings that we can expect from Ill.
A long-awaited sequel to the hit 2019 video game, Control: Resonant, completely changes up the formula from the original. Dylan, the sibling of the original protagonist Jesse, is released from confinement to stop a threat that has been unleashed onto Manhattan. Control: Resonant is more open-world in scope and seems to be heavily focused on close-quarters combat as opposed to the long-range combat that was typically favored in 2019’s Control. Control: Resonant is set to be released on September 24th, 2026.
Bungie’s Marathon is kicking off Season 2 with the brand new “Nightfall Update.” This update comes with a brand new map, new equipment, and a brand new PvE-focused game mode that should add some more spice to the game. This update is officially live on Marathon, so current and new players can hop into the game to discover all of the new content right away. Furthermore, Marathon is having a free week, so anyone can try the game out until June 9th to see if it is for them.
While the game has now been in early access on PC for over a year, Runescape: Dragonwilds is finally making its console debut on the PlayStation 5. This 1-to-4 player cooperative survival crafting game is set within the legendary world of Runescape, where you must explore a brand new region known as Ashenfall. Considering that the game is close to coming out of early access, it makes sense that there would be a console port. Runescape: Dragonwilds is set to drop on PlayStation 5 later this year.
Making another Until Dawn game is a bold proposition, but luckily, Until Dawn 2 developer Firesprite is taking the largest swing possible with the sequel to the beloved 2015 choose-your-own-horror adventure. Taking place on a tropical island, Until Dawn 2 follows a reality TV ghost hunting crew in search of their next big episode. Little do they know that they have signed up for much more than make-believe. Until Dawn 2 is set to release in 2027.
Rounding out the State of Play, God of War: Laufey has been revealed with a whole lot of gameplay to dissect. Taking place at the beginning of the 2018 God of War, this follows the story of Laufey as she attempts to figure out what has happened to the afterlife and prevent something terrible from happening to Kratos and Atreus. A release date was not given for God of War: Laufey, but you can wishlist it now on the PlayStation Store.
