Mina the Hollower Gets Release Date

Mina the Hollower, the next game from Shovel Knight studio Yacht Club Games, has been on my radar for years now. First announced in 2022, the game has had a few release windows, and even a date last Halloween, all of which it needed to push back to ensure the game was in its finest form. Now, we know that Mina is arriving in 2026 for sure, and a lot sooner than you might think.

Mina the Hollower is set to release on May 29, 2026, on Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and Steam. The game took a lot longer to finish than we expected, but it’s not for nothing. Yacht Club Games has shared that Mina spans dozens of distinct regions and contains more total screens than the entirety of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Players will face more than 25 bosses and mini-bosses, find collectibles, and even have the opportunity to explore New Game Plus and experiment with hundreds of gameplay modifiers.

There’s a lot riding on Mina the Hollower for Yacht Club Games, and not just in the sense that any studio wants its games to be successful. In a Bloomberg interview late last year, co-founder and studio director Sean Velasco said, “it’s make-or-break for sure,” adding, “if we sold 500,000 copies, then we would be golden. If we sold even 200,000, that would be really, really great. If we sold, like, 100,000, that’s not so good.”

We’ll know later this month if the response to Mina the Hollower meets these lofty expectations, but half a million copies doesn’t seem insane to me, given the love gamers have for Shovel Knight and for Yacht Club Games as a studio. Given the game’s retro aesthetic and the years fans have waited, I have my fingers crossed for the success of this release on May 29.
