I’ve seen Mexican Ninja a few times in various showcases over the past year or so. It always struck me as interesting, but I have always wanted to really see more before I committed to checking it out. Now, it seems that developer Amber Studio has given a firm date for Mexican Ninja’s launch.
Mexican Ninja will be released across PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles on August 20th. There is currently no word on a Switch (or Switch 2) release, but I’m sure that Amber Studio is working on something for post-release. Here is what the press release says about Mexican Ninja:

“Amber Studio today confirmed that Mexican Ninja, the fast and gloriously over-the-top 2.5D Rogue-like beat ’em up, launches on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on August 20. Slice your way through the streets of Nuevo Tokyo and lead the uprising against the Narkuzas.
Welcome to Nuevo Tokyo, a chaotic feudal regime forged when Mexico’s Narcos and Japan’s Yakuza merged into a new ruling class: The Narkuzas. They are now the law, and the law sucks culo. On the outskirts of the city[,] a group of rebels is plotting against the five heads of the Narkuza clan. Enter the Mexican Ninja.

Slice through the stylized streets in adrenaline-pumping combat where precise movement, positioning[,] and perfectly timed attacks decide every duel. The fighting is easy to learn yet rewards the kind of mastery only a true Mexican Ninja can reach.
Every playthrough is different, with randomized levels, over-the-top duels and pimped-out weapons. Each run unlocks new ninja skills as you train with El Mero Mero Sensei, gain the favor of Mexican-Japanese spirits and wield their powers. Unleash Mexican Jutsus, experiment with builds and combos[,] and swagger it up with hidden apparel. It is not enough to fight the Narkuza, you need to look good doing it to inspire an uprising. Viva la revolución.”

Dario Hoyo, Mexican Ninja’s creative director, commented on this announcement. He stated: “This is the moment we have been building toward. Every parry, every jutsu, every run is about that feeling of getting knocked down and standing back up with more swagger than before. Mexican Ninja has always been a vibe, a spirit, a way of being[,] and now players everywhere can find their inner donkey.”
After seeing more from this most recent trailer, I’m really interested in checking out Mexican Ninja. It has a sort of style that only a fusion of cultures can bring, and I’m really curious to see more. We only have a few more weeks till August 20th, so we’ll see how the Mexican Ninja fares.
