This week, the Steam Summer Sale begins in earnest, offering a ton of great games for low prices. At the time of writing, the Steam Summer Sale isn’t live yet, so the list ahead won’t have discounts listed. Instead, this is just a few games you should check out if you can, assuming the price is right.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

We begin with one of my favorite modern Metroidvanias. I considered putting Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in this spot, but since Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is coming at some point this year (barring any delays), now is the perfect time to check out the first entry in the series. You play as Miriam, a warrior who is afflicted by an alchemist’s curse. To save herself and humanity, she must journey through a demon-infested castle to confront an old friend. Bloodstained is a great Metroidvania, and I highly recommend it.

Is This Seat Taken?

I love a good logic puzzle, and this is a perfect game to tickle your brain a bit. Designed completely around making sure people are placed in the correct seats, Is This Seat Taken puts you in control of seat placement for buses, parties, and more. It is a fun little puzzle that doesn’t overstay its welcome, so consider giving it a try.

Cloverpit

Do you like gambling games? Cloverpit is like if Balatro was focused on playing Slots instead of poker. Cloverpit has a darker vibe to it, as if you fail you fall to your doom. Also, there are secrets to be found as you play.

Pseudoregalia

I wanted to only include one Metroidvania on this list, but Pseudoregalia is a little bit different. The game is a puzzle and mystery, as you slowly navigate a mysterious castle, uncovering traversal abilities that largely change the way you explore. Technically, you can explore various areas in multiple different ways, and the more you learn, the more the world opens up. Pseudoregalia is also short, so I’d recommend it if you want a fun little brain puzzle wrapped in a Metroidvania.

The Room Series

This is technically four games, but they’re all part of the same series, so I’m including them together. The Room series is a set of escape room-esque games where you solve puzzles and unlock sinister secrets. While there is a creepy tone to each game, there are no jump scares or threats, so you can explore and solve puzzles at your own pace. They usually go on sale together too, so keep an eye on that.

Octopath Traveler 0

Last (but most certainly not least) Octopath Traveler 0 is a non-gacha adaptation of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. If you are dissatisfied with the previous Octopath Traveler games’ stories feeling disconnected, Octopath Traveler 0 might change your mind. Easily my favorite game in the series, Octopath Traveler 0 combines powerful, emotional storytelling with beautiful visuals and an engaging combat system.

Hopefully, those listed games will help you find something to play from this Steam Summer Sale. There were a few other honorable mentions, such as Blasphemous II, but I wanted to try to keep things simple. Let us know what your Steam Summer Sale recommendations are in the comments.
