Despite living in Texas, where the heat is bringing an early Summer, I know that most people are enjoying Spring. The rain and blooming flowers are bringing bountiful gardens and all sorts of idyllic things. For those who prefer summertime and cozy gaming, a new game is coming very soon that should scratch that itch.
Based on 90s Japanese Cartoons, Kioku: Last Summer will be released on May 28th, 2026. Norwegian developer, Lugn Games, has released details about this cozy game that is said to have inspiration from Wanderstop, Spiritfarer, and Oxenfree. Here is what the press release says about Kioku: Last Summer’s release:

“Assemble Entertainment, in partnership with Norwegian indie developer Lugn Games, has announced that the much-anticipated Kioku: Last Summer will launch on 28 May 2026 on Steam. This idyllic escape is where friendship, mystery, and discovery will unfold across a summer you will never forget. Lose yourself in the gorgeous, smooth animation, reminiscent of your favourite 90s Japanese cartoons, and witness a genuine, heartfelt tale told over the course of one incredible summer.
You play as Asti, a curious youngster who arrives on the island of Kioku to begin a new life with her father. You’re eager to explore this island paradise and make new friends, but one boy keeps his distance. Why?

Uncover a tale of laughter, tension, and quiet moments that reveal evolving relationships and shared adventures. Asti will discover that every friendship has its own story to tell.
If you loved Wanderstop, Spiritfarer, and Oxenfree, this is definitely one to watch.

Bask in childhood nostalgia as each in-game day brings something new. Help local residents, solve mysteries, and reveal secrets through a series of story-driven quests and tasks.
Battle your friends at Marubi, a collectible marble game inspired by your childhood favorites. Build up a team of unique creatures, each with distinct stats and abilities, and compete against your new friends. You’ll also try your hand at crab fishing – catch a variety of crabs, discover rare finds, and trade mysterious Crab Pots for valuable items to help you on your journey.”

Kioku: Last Summer is definitely a cozy game I’ve got on my radar. It’ll be something to toss around in my rotation along with Coral Island and Fields of Mistria in between various updates. With May 28th coming pretty fast, folks won’t have to wait long for Kioku to provide an unforgettable summer experience.
