When Project Pantheon was first teased back in January, I treated it as something to be interested in once more details were revealed. I had certainly forgotten about the project until this week, when Wolcen Studio decided to give audiences a first look at the game through a deep dive interview.

First and foremost Pantheon is set in a dark fantasy world heavily influenced by real-world mythology from dozens of cultures. The player is enlisted by Death to accomplish an important mission and will utilize many of his powers throughout the game. Within the universe of Pantheon, many of the well-known gods from myth have long since died, and their corpses scatter the landscape. Many of these landmarks will serve as the centerpieces for exciting story elements and offer opportunities for exploration.

Project Pantheon is described as a top-down action RPG, similar to the likes of Diablo. However, the developers have also stated that the game will contain elements of extraction shooters. Essentially, each mission will drop you into specific areas of the map where you will gather as many resources as possible before escaping safely. Dying means you lose all your loot, and I would imagine this will be a highlighting aspect of this brutal, dark fantasy world.

This interview also gave a first look at gameplay, which was nice to see, although it didn’t offer much in the way of showcasing anything truly unique about the game. Nonetheless, I am excited by the potential for this title and the mythological-themed dark fantasy world it offers. Wolcen Studio have stated that the game will be showcased more in depth during this years Gamescom event taking place August 20th through the 24th. Hopefully, this showcase will include information regarding a potential launch time frame, extended gameplay, and available platforms. If you’d like to follow the progress of Project Pantheon, you can keep an eye on the game’s official website and register for the closed alpha.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
