Since it was announced, I’ve found Blackwood’s premise interesting. The idea of having a John Wick-esque double life, but actually having it impact gameplay, was interesting to me. Now, it seems that we’ve gotten a deep dive ahead of its first playable appearance.

That’s right, the dev team at AttritoM7 Productions has revealed a deep dive trailer for gameplay. They have also announced that a public demo will be available at Gamescom this year, from August 26th-30th. Here is what the press release says about the reveals and announcements:

“At the heart of BLACKWOOD is Anton Blackwood, a man caught between two worlds. By day, he runs a small Brooklyn DVD store, serving customers, managing stock, and trying to hold onto the fragments of an ordinary life. By night, he becomes a highly skilled contract killer, navigating New York’s dangerous criminal underworld where every mission carries deadly consequences.

The developer showcase explores how these contrasting lives seamlessly intertwine throughout the experience, creating a world where narrative, combat, and player choice constantly influence one another. Players will discover a brutal city filled with memorable characters, uncover new opportunities through contract hits, adapt their approach with an expanding arsenal of customizable weapons and equipment, and experience grounded yet cinematic combat where every encounter demands careful planning, quick thinking, and decisive action.

Without revealing the story’s biggest twists, the deep dive also offers a closer look at BLACKWOOD‘s richly detailed recreation of New York, its environmental storytelling, progression systems, and the cinematic presentation that brings Anton’s journey to life through seamless transitions between gameplay and narrative.

The wait to experience BLACKWOOD is almost over. Fans attending Gamescom 2026 will be among the first in the world to go hands-on with the game’s first-ever public playable demo, available throughout the show from 26th–30th August at the Infernozilla Megabooth in the Consumer Hall 10.2 Indie Area, Stand F044g – E061g. Members of the team will also be on hand throughout the event to introduce players to Anton Blackwood’s world and discuss the game’s development ahead of launch.”

I’m really interested in Blackwood. It seems like (if done right) it could be a really cool take on an action game, mixed with some sim elements. At least, I hope they have a few sim elements in there. Let us know what you think in the comments.
