NeoGeo Pocket Collection 2 Available Now

I’m a big fan of SNK but due to my age, I’ve never had the opportunity to play many of their titles. Fortunately, the studio decided to release some of their more difficult-to-acquire titles in a remastered collection that is available for download now on both Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 2 contains ten rereleased games from the handheld console from 1999 that was shortly discontinued. This collection is an expansion of the original collection which was released in September 2021. Six of these titles are completely new while four can be found in other remastered collections or releases.

Just like Vol. 1, this collection offers a variety of titles across different genres that feature legendary characters from both SNK and Capcom. With the exception of the arena fighter Mega Man: Battle and Fighters and the mini-game collection Ganbare Neo Poke Kun, all titles are able to be experienced in both English and Japanese.

The variety of titles here is certainly exceptional. I’m a big fan of both card and board games, so I was excited to see SNK V.S Capcom Card Fighters and King of Fighters: Battle De Paradise represented. The collection also offers many different sports titles in Big Bang Pro Wrestling, Baseball Stars Color, Pocket Tennis Color, and NeoGeo Cup 98′ Plus Color.

For those looking to test their brains, the collection contains Puzzle Link 2. Finally, there is also the unique RPG Biomotor Unitron which places you into the shoes of a robot pilot and focuses on dungeon-crawling combat.

I love retro gaming, and I am glad that remasters allow niche games to become available to a wider audience in an affordable and easy-to-acquire fashion. It also allows for underappreciated gems to get a second chance in the market and gauge consumer interest for potential sequels. Hopefully, the success of these collections can bring SNK back into the spotlight in the West. NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 2 is available now.
