In a new update to Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2, new routes have been added to Knockout Tour, one of the game’s signature modes. A few other updates are included in the Ver. 1.7.0 update, but new ways to explore the massive map of the game are certainly a welcome addition for players hungry for more ways to explore World. Here’s what you can expect once you download the patch to your system.

For those who haven’t played Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2, Knockout Tour is a mode where you race from one end of the connected in-game world to the other. Beginning with 24 drivers, five checkpoints eliminate players near the back of the pack each time. Your goal is to reach the final four and eventually finish in first place.

Two new routes, Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, will help keep the gameplay fresh for players more than one year after the title’s launch. Drill Rally connects Wario Shipyard and Bowser’s Castle, and Boomerang Rally connects Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit.

The other addition, apart from a few bug fixes here and there, is the inclusion of stickers in Photo Mode. With a vast world to explore, Photo Mode is a fun way to capture memories you make on the winding roads of Mario Kart World. Now, you can place stickers you’ve collected by playing the game, including ones earned in Free Roam. You can combine stickers with frames, and even fit them into picture-perfect parts of your snapshots thanks to Joy-Con 2 mouse controls.

The question in everyone’s mind right now is what DLC might come to Mario Kart World. I think I’m certainly one of the many who thought we’d have an announcement of new courses or characters by now, but Nintendo seems happy to keep letting the base game breathe as more folks buy a Switch 2. With over a 90% attach rate, many Switch 2 owners also have Mario Kart World, so it shouldn’t be long before we see additions to the game.
