Healthy competition is always a good thing, especially when the market is dominated by one competitor. Alex Massé and team/Paralives Studio have aimed to do that very thing with life sim and home-building simulator Paralives. In recent years, there has been a push to create these Sims-like games of some variation, but of all of them, I think Paralives seems like the one to actually do something for the genre of life sim. It is certainly the one I’ve been most interested in since its announcement.
After at least one delay from last December, Alex Massé and team finally released it into early access on Monday. Not only released into early access, but as announced on Steam, it has already sold more than 250,000 copies in about 8 hours. Of course, launching into early access means you don’t get the full-fat experience of The Sims with Paralives, though the team did confirm a roadmap late last week.

Right now, you’re getting the basics of an already pretty decent character creation tool, a decent home-building experience, and the basis of your Paras (Sims for this world) lives, love, hate, social interactions, and jobs. It seems, even in a digital world, at least one of the two constants rings true: Death and taxes. I’ll let you decide which one I’m talking about there.
Paralives is available now on Steam in early access, with a launch discount of 10% until June 1st. Currently, Paralives is available for $35.99 with the discount, $39.99 after that, with prices varying depending on currency. I’m excited to see what comes of Paralives in the coming months and beyond, while in early access, though I am hoping it doesn’t take 2 years, as the roadmap hints at, for the addition of weather and season, pools, and pets. By the sounds of that, we’d see Paralives in early access until the heat death of the universe if fan feedback is anything to go by.
