If you’re looking for a crisis of time and the way it passes, let me give you a fun fact. The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Even more unbelievable, it’s been 15 years since the 3DS re-release of the game. This iconic project in gaming history is likely getting a fresh remaster soon, but a duo of video game composers are giving it a different kind of refresh with a new jazz album arranged for sleep, relaxation, and studying.

Scarlet Moon Records has released Prescription for Sleep: Ocarina of Time, a jazz lullaby tribute to Koji Kondo’s iconic score for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In the age of cozy, lo-fi music to study to, I’m still a jazz truther. Sure, it’s great to hear little beeps and bloops on a synthesizer, but the minimalist saxophone and piano on this album are great for any focus or wind-down you might be planning in your day.

Gentle Love, the duo behind Prescription for Sleep: Ocarina of Time, are far from strangers to the world of video game soundtracks. Saxophonist Norihiko Hibino is the composer behind the Metal Gear Solid and Bayonetta series. Norihiko’s partner, pianist AYAKI, is well known for work on Etrian Odyssey and Streets of Rage. Much of their work together involves touring Japan and performing therapeutic music at healthcare and wellness events.

Since its inception in 2014, Prescription for Sleep: Game Music Lullabies has earned tens of millions of streams across 15 previous releases, including three compilation volumes. Some of the high-profile soundtracks to get the lo-fi treatment include Secret of Mana, UNDERTALE, Celeste, Shovel Knight, Wizard of Legend, Stardew Valley, and Attack on Titan. The series has also included charity releases in honor of late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata and late game developer Yoshitaka Murayama. Many favorites from The Legend of Zelda classic are here on this album, including tracks like “Kokiri Forest,” “Zelda’s Lullaby,” and “Kakariko Village.” You can purchase or stream the album on all major platforms now.
