While I was considering writing a review for Dispatch, I realized that there was almost nothing new that I could add to the discussion or a new take that would be worth writing a whole review for. However, there are a bunch of questions that seem to be lingering throughout the game, and that pop up at the end that need answering. So I decided to do a deep dive and find the top questions that I would like to have answered in a possible Dispatch Season 2. Let’s begin!

Where is Robert’s Mother?

Throughout Season 1, Robert is constantly trying to find a way to live up to the legacy of his father and deal with the problems that his father left behind. One missing piece of his family that is never brought up in any conversations is Robert’s mother. As far as we know, we haven’t seen her in any pictures, and there isn’t anything in the brief flashback scene that indicates his mom is even in his life as a child. My personal theory right now is that his mother was a villain of some sort, someone who Robert’s father fell in love with and, for a time, found common ground. However, something after Robert’s birth took place and forced his mother to go into an exile of sorts, either self-imposed or forced by Robert’s father. Perhaps now, with the fall of Shroud and the death of Robert’s father, she could make an appearance to fill the void of Shroud and attempt to reconnect with Robert.

What will be the Legacy of Shroud?

Shroud was a character that loomed large throughout the criminal world of Dispatch and controlled so many elements of how the first season of Dispatch unfolded. Now that he is removed from the equation by the end of this story, there is bound to be a power struggle amongst the various villains and gangs that exist. While my theory of Robert’s villainous mother could fill this leadership void, there is a good chance that another character could emerge as a new leader. The likely candidate from existing characters that could be the next main villain is Brainteaser, as he seems to have the most prominent presence of a minor bad guy and has the ability to be a major problem for the Z-Team!

Given how much the struggle for Robert throughout the game is figuring out where he fits into the Mechaman family legacy, I could easily see there being a child of Shroud that could emerge from the shadows and attempt to reclaim the position that his or her father held. While this may be a bit too much of rehashing the themes from the first season, it could allow us to see the struggles that Robert felt from a different point of view and lead him to trying to reach out to Shroud’s prodigy to stop the path that their fathers have led them down.

Who will remain in the Phoenix Program?

The Phoenix Program that helped put together the Z-Team that we all know and love! What began as a rag-tag group of wannabe heroes transformed into the saviors of the day as Shroud began his massive attack against the city and SDN. Seeing that these individuals have now become the very thing that they were meant to be, it seems unlikely that they will remain a part of this program. There could always be a few exceptions. Considering that Sonar and Coupe are the two heroes who can join the villains and then be forgiven, there is a good chance that one or both of them could be stuck there temporarily. The team could also be deemed lucky by the higher-ups at SDN for successfully defending SDN against Shroud. It will also be curious to see how Invisigal is handled, given the two fates that could befall her depending on how good a mentor/love interest you are to her.

Will Robert remain a Dispatcher?

The primary reason for Robert being a Dispatcher in Season 1 is that he can no longer repair his suit without the help of SDN and their resources. By the end of the game, the Mechaman suit is repaired, but Robert has also proved himself as a capable dispatcher. While the dispatching gameplay was a core component of this game, I find it unlikely that Adhoc Studios would abandon one of the key things that made this game unique from other choose your own adventure style video games. However, there also needs to be an evolution of Robert’s character, and it makes no sense for him to stay behind the desk when he could be helping the city out again by being Mechaman.

What seems most likely to happen is that there will be a switching off of sorts where some days Robert would be a Dispatcher for the Z-Team, and other days he would be dispatched on a team by someone else. This would allow us to have a whole new set of challenges and minigames that we could engage in while still having some of the special sauce that made Dispatch’s gameplay stand out. It will be curious to see if the Dispatcher for when Robert is out in the field would be Mandy or a new character who could pose a challenge for Robert in some way.

What solution will be found for Chase?

While Chase is in good shape at the end of Dispatch season 1, he is only that way due to Blonde Blazer’s amulet. This definitely gives Chase a new lease on life, but this cannot be a permanent solution, given how the city still needs Blonde Blazer from time to time. While most of these questions that will need to be answered in season 2 have a few possibilities, there are no simple answers here. This is primarily because there is little information on where Mandy got her amulet or where it came from. This could lead us down the path of discovering the secrets behind it and potentially the creator or source of creation of the amulet.

If whoever or whatever created the amulet can be located, it could mean that a new amulet could be created for Mandy to resume her role as Blonde Blazer and allow Chase to keep the current one, or for there to be one made exclusively for Chase to continue living and being a hero. Considering that there is a variety of magic that we have seen in the series, primarily through the abilities of Malevola, it would be interesting to get a deeper dive into one of the many elements of this world.

Will Invisigal’s augment start working again?

One of the key reveals of Invisigal towards the end of the game, when speaking to Robert, is the fact that she has an augment that improved her breathing while working for Shroud. After she “left” his organization and turned herself in, the augment was shut off. While the look of the augment is similar to the various other augments that Shroud’s goons use at the final confrontation, it is clear that Shroud has some sort of direct control over each of the augments. Now with Shroud out of the picture, what could this mean for them and especially for Courtney?

It would make sense for these augments to be studied, either by SDN or by the government for other uses. Considering how tech savvy Royd is, it would make sense for him to find a way to reverse engineer Shroud’s tech and potentially reactivate Invisigal’s breathing augment. There is also a chance that she could want the augment removed entirely, as it is the last remaining symbol of her old life. If that is the case, I could see it being an interesting choice to be made in the next season.

How could Shroud’s mech technology improve Robert’s mech?

While on the topic of reverse engineering Shroud’s technology, there is also what to do with Shroud’s mech that he used to take on Mechaman and the rest of Z-Team. It seems unlikely that they would be able to use some of the tech used within it to predict the movements and attacks of enemies, but there could be some aspects of the hull or weapons that could be studied and used to improve Robert’s mech. The armor would probably be the most important thing to study since it was able to take quite the pounding from the Z-Team and still managed to stay standing for much longer than it seemed like Robert’s mech ever could.

Considering that Shroud was able to make a mech of his own using the resources of his underground criminal network, it could mean that other mechs could start to make an appearance in Dispatch. This could spell trouble for Robert from time to time and could potentially cause him and Royd to try reverse engineering some of the less desirable systems in order to get a slight edge on certain mechs and other threats. It would also be interesting to see if there are people who begin to imitate Mechaman in order to confuse the public and sow mistrust.

How will Blonde Blazer’s “disappearance” be handled?

With Chase currently in possession of Mandy’s amulet, which allows her to become Blonde Blazer, her superhero persona is essentially gone after Shroud’s attack. While some of this could be easily taken care of by some statements saying that Blonde Blazer is busy with clean up or recovering from the battle, eventually, enough journalists would get suspicious and begin to investigate where Blonde Blazer is. Furthermore, her absence could cause problems for both Mandy and the SDN branch that the Z-Team operates from.

Since most of the staff have never met Mandy and Mandy has rarely shown her true self to others, it could cause there to be a temporary leadership shake up over there. This shake-up could cause even more problems for our beloved team. The only hope for them to have a smooth change is if Chase, as Star Blazer, is able to assume control of their branch.
