Coffee Stain tease new Satisfactory expansion

I say it a lot, but every time I so much as think about Satisfactory, I wish I had more time. It is one of those games where you sit down to start playing, you’ll get through the first little bit that’s “dull” in a sitting or two, then when you’re automating and running coal power generation, you’ve sat down in June and woken up in January. About as advertized as a dose of diarrhea in church, IGN and Coffee Stain Studios held a showcase yesterday – yeah, it was only announced two weeks ago. However, during this Big Break Showcase, the dev/publisher announced several things, including the “Core Values” Expansion.

“Taking the Satisfactory gameplay to new depths. ‘Core Values’ is the first paid DLC for Satisfactory and a major expansion,” notes the Steam store description. Mostly because no one put out a press release last night. It continues: “Pioneers will reach into the crust of MASSAGE 2(A-B)b in a different setting with new resources, flora, fauna[,] and more as you develop an underground factory network with new production lines and buildings, uncovering more about the world the deeper you go as you Construct, Automate, Explore & Exploit while continuing to uphold FICSIT’s Core Values.”

The short trailer published soon after the showcase features a camera going deep underground to look at a… cat. Like most cats, including the one sitting next to me as I write this, it is annoying, horrible, and fluffy at the same time. No, there aren’t really any details, as you might guess. The trailer actually ends with “Coming later,” and the Steam page doesn’t have any screenshots of what to really expect. Not that the “showcase” is much help because it very much goes the PC Gaming Show 2015 route. Indeed, ‘Nam flashbacks.

Without even bothering (would you?) to find out who the host is, they interview the Game Director at Coffee Stain Studios for Satisfactory, Emmet Burke. However, as I say with the PC Gaming Show comparison, it is an interview in big inverted commas, as the only questions lead to jabs about studios running out of money, so they do DLC, a non-answer on whether updates continue alongside this paid DLC era, and a heavily redacted comment about what to actually expect. We do know that “later” isn’t in 2026, though.

Like SNL, it is a skit that is funny to the three people making it, but if you want substance or information, there is none. You can wishlist the Satisfactory “Core Values” Expansion on Steam and the Epic Games Store right now. I’m excited to see more. Of course, by more I mean anything, because this was an announcement that quite literally could have been held another six months until there was actually something to show. Or maybe that’s just me.
