Making a game in 2026 is an impressive feat. No matter when the development process started, launching a new video game, given the wide variety of challenges that arise during its creation, feels like an unlikely feat in many cases. For a solo-developed project? It’s a miracle and a force of willpower combined with passion for the vision an artist has for their idea. That’s why the upcoming release of Sunken Realms, an ARPG developed by a solo-run studio called Magic Puncher Games, is worth celebrating. Along with the release date, we got a new trailer to help build hype for the Steam release next month.

Sunken Treasure began its development six years ago. “The game that inspired me to make my own was Outward,” said Brad Warren, the solo developer behind Magic Puncher Games, in a press release about the game’s release date. “That spirit carries through the game today, alongside the storytelling influence of Hades and the sense of adventure found in The Legend of Zelda.” I mean, if you’re going to emulate two franchises, you can’t do much better than Hades and The Legend of Zelda. After years of hard work, Warren’s studio is announcing a September 18th release date on Steam.

Players will control Arlic, an adventurer searching for the truth about his father in the great underground city of Aedaria. Cursed by the gods and fallen into darkness, the city swallows anyone foolish enough to pass its gates. An immersive, original score pairs with the dark, gritty visuals of this gruesome dungeon. In the trailer below, you can see many influences in its gameplay, including the games Warren attributes to the creation of this project, particularly in the combat and camera work during enemy encounters.

The game features 109 hand-crafted rooms across six distinct sections, which are procedurally rearranged every time you enter the dungeon. Similar to Blue Prince, that makes it seem like Sunken Realms will really have infinite ways to keep you coming back for more. With melee, ranged, and magic combat, as well as a camp for crafting and upgrading, this adventure is likely to thrill a lot of players eager to hop into another fantasy adventure.
