I’ve been following Nightscape ever since I saw a trailer during a showcase a year or so ago. I love Metroidvania games, but games that delve into different settings and cultures hit just the right spot for me. Now, it seems the dev team at Mezan Studios is showing a little more of Nightscape ahead of its release later this year.

Mezan Studios released a new trailer for Nightscape. The trailer showcases dialogue and offers a few bits of story detail ahead of the upcoming release. Here is what the press release had to say about Nightscape and the new trailer:

“Ahead of the game’s release this year on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, Mezan Studios has released a new trailer for Nightscape. The trailer focuses on showing dialogue and offering some hints at the story for the atmospheric 2.5D adventure inspired by Arabian astronomy.

In Nightscape, you play as Layla as you explore an ancient Arabian land, wielding stellar powers in your quest to return the stars to the sky and find your missing father. Layla is a young stargazer who has inherited her father’s passion for astronomy.

Arabic constellations once [shone] bright, but a catastrophic event caused their stars to fall from the sky[;] the world forgot their names, and darkness devoured the world. Layla’s father went missing during this mysterious Starfall. Before you stands a chaotic world and an opportunity to restore and save your father.

It’s up to you and your Goat Kid companion to use your wit, courage[,] and knowledge of constellation powers to put things right. Your constellation powers allow you to manipulate the elements: call on the power of the wind, or make rain fall from the sky to manipulate your environment to solve puzzles.”

I am very excited to play Nightscape later this year, though we don’t have a firm release date yet. The idea of astronomy being tied to your powers is exciting, and it seems like it will have some unique implementation as well. Let us know what you think of the trailer in the comments.
