Turkish developer MGR Studio has released a free demo on Steam of their upcoming title Market Chain 98, which they’re also self-publishing. Market Chain 98 presents itself as “a unique pure incremental simulation styled entirely after a late 1990s desktop operating system.” Based on the screenshots available on Steam, I’m guessing the operating system in question is a legally distinct relative of Windows 98, hence the title. That brings back some ancient memories, which is why we had better get into the details of a press release about Market Chain 98 before I get lost in reminiscing about the Windows 98 era.

“Stepping into a cozy, customizable CRT monitor interface, players manage expanding revenue streams inside a fully functional retro desktop environment. Designed specifically for hardcore incremental and idle game enthusiasts, the core progression ditches casual clicking in favor of deep mathematical scaling, complex resource management, and aggressive corporate expansion.” Oh, good heavens, those all sound like things I’m dreadfully unprepared to deal with. Hopefully, there’s an in-depth tutorial that can help me figure out what’s what! I’d understand if there’s no such tutorial in the current demo of Market Chain 98, but I hope the full version will help mathematically challenged players like myself.
“To scale numbers from single digits to infinite corporate valuations, players must calculate dynamic bank loan interest ratings, navigate strict IRS tax bracket audits, and optimize multi-layered automated distribution trucks across a shifting global logistics network.” Great, now I feel even less qualified, partly because the American tax system is a beast designed from the ground up to be understood by as few people as possible. There’s no word on a concrete release window or price for Market Chain 98 at the time of writing, but you can try out its demo and wishlist Market Chain 98 on Steam now if you’re interested.
