I’ve been following Tombwater for a while now. In fact, last month, I covered the announcement for the Character Archetypes that will be available. Now, the dev team for Tombwater has revealed a release date, as well as updates to the demo.
Tombwater will be coming to PC on March 31st. Midwest Games and Moth Atlas have prepared some adjustments and enhancements for the demo, celebrating this week’s Steam Next Fest as well. Here is what the press release says about Tombwater’s release and updated demo:
“Steam Next Fest is here, and Midwest Games and indie developers Max Mraz and Jake Wagner of Moth Atlas are giving a hearty ‘yeehaw’ as they celebrate an updated demo launch for the highly anticipated 2D Western Souls-like, Tombwater, alongside the announcement of its March 31 release date on PC.
Inspired by beloved classics like early Legend of Zelda entries and wearing its Bloodborne influence on its sleeve, Tombwater dares you to uncover secrets that the town’s few remaining inhabitants are trying their damndest to keep buried.

Tombwater ain’t for the faint of heart! Those of y’all who muster up the courage can look forward to spending about 20 hours of gameplay, across seven distinct player classes, over 50 firearms and melee weapons, and more than 20 spells, while exploring Tombwater’s extensive map and horrifying monstrosities.
The Tombwater demo will see players dive headfirst into the mouth of madness, fending off sanity-spilling Eldritch monsters and horrifying bosses as they traverse the town looking for their long-lost friend. Echoes of the abandoned silver mines below the cursed ground have reached the surface, gripping anything and everything by the tendrils of madness… and the longer they stay, the deeper they’ll drive themselves into insanity.

Pacing and proper use of resources can make or break each battle against the evil spirits — between firearms and melee weapons, there’s an arsenal to choose from, and the right tools in the saddle bag will mean the difference between life and death.”
The updated demo has also added accessibility features, giving players the opportunity to tailor their difficulty and experience. Additionally, the demo now has new items in the shop, a new “stagger” mechanic, and a “look ahead” camera option. I’m excited to dive into the eldritch west with Tombwater next month, and you may see a preview between now and then, depending on our workload.
