Ok, so the joke about RPGs is that you gather with friends to kill a god, right? Well, what happens in an RPG without combat? Ivalys Studios has the goal of answering this question with their new RPG, Pluralys.
Now in Steam Early Access, Pluralys is an entirely combat-free RPG. It trades combat and typical RPG mechanics for “meaningful connections and impactful dialogue.” With a mysterious time-stopping pager as your only equipment, you’ll have to engage in dialogue and work with the environment to save the world. Here is what the press release says about Pluralys:
“What if the fate of the world rested on the shoulders of the most unlikely hero? That’s the question posed by Pluralys, a cosy RPG experience that is now available in Steam Early Access. Ivalys Studio’s debut redefines the RPG landscape by trading traditional combat mechanics for meaningful connections and impactful dialogue, challenging players to save the world through empathy, choice, and a mysterious time-stopping pager…
Step into the shoes of Elie, a regular 16-year-old who loves RPGs, board games, and living a peaceful life in Sector G, whose world is turned upside down when they receive a cryptic, desperate message. What began as a normal day spirals into an adventure that will see Elie journey through a world where humans and mysterious creatures known as Zeings co-exist, and where every conversation can uncover secrets, form friendships, or even save the world!

Pluralys takes a bold step away from the RPG staples of combat encounters and grinding for levels, opting to place the focus on compelling dialogue and encouraging the player to make profound choices that will leave a lasting impact on the characters they meet. Luckily, your mysterious time-bending Pager is the perfect tool for analysing the world around you, capable of stopping time, manipulating objects, and uncovering secrets invisible to the naked eye…“
You can also experience the world of Pluralys through a free, standalone episode called “Pluralys (Exp.14)” which is available on Steam, Itchio, and GX Games. The full release of Pluralys is planned for Q1 2026, but it is now in Early Access, so you can watch as it evolves. I find Pluralys to be an interesting concept, but we’ll see how it turns out.
