The Nintendo Indie World Showcase for August 2025 showcased a ton of new indie titles upcoming in the next 12-18 months, including some fun shadow-drops. There are a lot of games to overview, so rather than spend too many characters at the top telling you about the showcase overall, let’s dive into the details!
Little Kitty, Big City kicks things off with a new content pack from developer Double Dagger Studio. The Picture Purrfect Update will bring new characters, hats, and customization options to your kitty, giving fans of this cozy and casual game a good excuse to jump back in and cause a ruckus.
An expanded look at Mina The Hollower gave us more looks at this pixel throwback title from Yacht Club Games. With several bizarre enemies and fun boss battles, this is going to be a lot of fun for fans of old-school Zelda-style titles. Best of all, a free demo is now available to get you excited before the October 31 release date for Switch and Switch 2.
Poti Poti Studio and publisher Wholesome Games gave us a look at Is This Seat Taken? next, a really funny puzzle game where you choose where people sit. With quirky characters and picky opinions over who likes sitting where, this is a no-pressure way to casually see if you can find people their favorite place in a movie theater, taxi cab, and more. This also shadow-dropped after the show and is a timed Nintendo Switch exclusive that is available now.
Well Dweller is the latest from Kyle Thompson, developer of Crypt Custodian, and Top Hat Studios. As Glimmer, players take control of a tiny bird who has to defeat an evil queen to save his family. There’s a lot of Metroidvania energy in the trailer. The game also promises collectibles, puzzles, and a gorgeous art style I’m really excited to experience myself.
Next up in the August 2025 Indie World Showcase, the follow-up to surprise hit Ultimate Chicken Horse was revealed to be the similarly named Ultimate Sheep Raccoon. Players will race each other in the most chaotic bike-racing courses, utilizing ramps, traps, and obstacles to their advantage to finish first. This has crazy co-op night with friends written all over it. Also, personal plug for Ultimate Chicken Horse – it’s an absolute blast. Expect its successor this winter.
BALL X PIT initially confused me with Nintendo’s Drag X Drive on the way, but this is a uniquely different type of game. Part brick-breaker, part base-building, this game was really unlike anything I’ve seen recently and should be a lot of fun. Plus, the team at Devolver Digital, which is publishing this Kenny Sun & Friends-developed title, rarely misses. The game is out October 15 for Switch, with a Switch 2 version coming later this fall.
Heading to Switch and Switch 2 in 2026, the PC-gaming craze Content Warning is coming to Nintendo consoles. In this game, you and your friends explore monster-filled depths and record yourself the whole time with the hope of going viral. If you haven’t seen people play this on Twitch yet, do yourself a favor and watch someone play on PC.
A timed-exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 title for this winter, Glaciered puts you 65 million years into the future. As the successor to dinosaurs, you’ll explore the seas as a Tuai, fighting marine creatures in real-time combat and exploring the depths. This has a Subnautica vibe, but with futuristic dinosaurs and combat, which seems like a recipe for fun to me.
From Coldbood Inc. and Outersloth, Neverway is a life-sim RPG straight from your nightmares. After Fiona quits her job, she heads to a farm and becomes the herald to a dead deity. With post-apocalyptic chaos and tons of characters to fight, romance, or lie to, you’ll work to pay off your debt at all costs. This was the trailer of the show for me, although a few things in the final montage certainly caught my eye as well.
UFO 50, the collection of retro games from a fictional game studio of the past, is coming to Switch today as a timed platform exclusive. This led to a montage which included cozy management game Tiny Bookshop, Strange Horticulture sequel Strange Antiquities, and photo adventure game OPUS: Prism Peak. Other titles include Go-Go Town!, a city rebuilder coming in 2026, 2D turn-based roguelike Caves of Qud, the heartfelt cleaning game Undusted: Letters from the Past, and Winter Burrow, a woodland survival game aptly releasing this holiday.
Overall, I think really great content was revealed in this August 2025 Indie World Showcase. Indie gaming is really a huge part of why the Nintendo Switch took off the way it did, and it’s great to see so much support for the Nintendo ecosystem continue with the Switch 2. Let us know in the comments what your favorite reveal from the August 2025 Indie World Showcase was!
