I’ve been following Stupid Never Dies and its “Deep Bite” deep dives lately. I’m really excited to try the new game from GPTRACK50, and these deep dives are painting a picture of what will be coming in just a few weeks.

Now, the third “Deep Bite” has arrived, focusing on an important pillar of any game’s development: Music. Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi walks us through the game’s musical journey in the new deep dive, and here is a little more about it from the press release:

“Math time! Punk + Love = Funky. This equation is central to how Stupid Never Dies, the upcoming pop-punk-saturated action RPG[,] got its signature style. In a new video shared by publisher SEGA and developer GPTRACK50, producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi takes us on the musical journey that shaped the tone of Davy’s wild adventure.

Music is also the backbone to the flow of the game, with songs that dynamically shift between tense exploration, high-energy battles, and calmer rest spots while Davy explores KOM’s domain, to chill, Low-Fi Beats to Get Battle-Ready to in Davy’s Mall home base. Sound is deeply rooted in the player’s experience of the game: If the gameplay changes and evolves, the music changes and evolves alongside. The musical journey that GPTRACK50 takes players through is a key part of Stupid Never Dies’ funky style.

GPTRACK 50 knew very early on that music would play a central role in bringing the tone of Stupid Never Dies to life. Rather than adding music to the final game after development concluded, the team started with Davy’s theme song first and used the inspiration from that to shape the game. As Davy’s adventure starts with the classic “boy-meets-girl scenario”, the team knew right away that the pop-punk songs they loved in their youth would be the perfect genre to capture the unabashed joy of young love.

From there, the team delved into the different characters and enemies that Davy would face along the way, asking themselves, ‘If they made music, what would they make?’ To match the diversity of the game, the team expanded genres, blending everything – from metal, to rock, to electronic music, even traditional Japanese instrumentation and motifs – to create what they like to call ‘Neo Pop Punk.’”

As a reminder, Stupid Never Dies will be released on PC and PlayStation 5 on October 21st. There is also a demo available now, so you can give Stupid Never Dies a try! You can watch the full deep dive below, and then let us know what you’re most excited for in the comments!
