September Nintendo Direct News Recap

Today’s Nintendo Direct was packed with tons of info and some great new game announcements so let’s get right into it.

Starting things off was a trailer for the upcoming Switch 2 port for Monster Hunter Wilds. The Switch 2 version will include all updates the game has received since launch as well as the addition of local co-op play. The game is set to release on Switch 2 on December 4th, with the major DLC expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance slated for 2027.

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation will be coming to Switch 2 on April 8th, 2027, along with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion, which is available for purchase now. In the same realm of third-party releases, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will arrive on Switch 2 on September 29th. This version includes all previous paid DLC, updated visuals, and both touchscreen and mouse controls. The new DLC Songs of the Past will be available for the game soon after, in 2027.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II will be coming to Nintendo Switch later next year with a collection that includes all the DLC released thus far. Additionally, all three Resident Evil remakes will be available for Switch 2 on October 16th. Furthermore, the latest title in the Lego Batman series, Legacy of the Dark Knight, releases for Switch 2 on September 18th with a deluxe edition which includes the DLC.

Switching gears towards more first-party titles, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be receiving a definitive edition for Switch 2. This version will add the Calamity Mode difficulty option, and the full game will launch on February 25th.

The latest Star Fox title for Switch 2 will also receive a free update adding some nice features to the game. Players can play local multiplayer in single-player and online matches. Battle mode will also receive three additional stages. This update goes live on September 29th. In the meantime, you can now enjoy the RPG Star Fox Adventures on the Switch 2, which has been added to the Nintendo Classics service.

There was also a brief new glimpse of the upcoming Pokopia DLC, which will focus on accessories and add additional Pokémon to the game as options for you to add to your town.

Next up was a look at a quirky multiplayer title called Meccha Chameleon, which is now on Switch 2. The game places you in random arenas where players must disguise themselves to blend in with their surroundings and avoid being spotted by the Seeker.

The latest entry in the Professor Layton series, New World of Steam, received a new trailer showcasing more glimpses of the charming world, along with a release date of December 10th. There was also an announcement for a port of the PC title Cairn, a story-based simulation game focused around mountain climbing, coming early next year.

There was a small trailer for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave with the launch date confirmed for September 17th. Furthermore, you can expect new Switch 2 editions for Pikmin 4 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Pikmin 4’s newest version is available on November 12th and features new voice commands for your dog companion as well as a new game mode, Dandori Academy. Xenoblade 3 will also receive a new game mode for the Switch 2 version titled Hero Vault and will offer a new playable character named Shimmer. This version launches December 3rd.

Kirby Air Riders will be receiving two new Amiibo figures that will launch alongside an upcoming in-game event. More details have been promised to be shared soon.

Disney Dreamlight Valley will be receiving a new paid expansion titled the Keepsake Sea. This will feature some iconic characters like Jack Sparrow and Megara while allowing you to explore new undersea areas as a mermaid.

In terms of some new game announcements, Nintendo had some interesting first- and third-party trailers to show. Onyx: Dark Grip is an upcoming psychological horror title where your choices directly impact the psyche of the protagonist. The game launches exclusively for Switch 2 next year. Also shown was Stage Fright, a new title from the Overcooked developers. The game is an adventure puzzle title set within a strange town filled with spooky monsters and foes alike.

The upcoming adventure rhythm game called Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale was confirmed to be launching for Switch 2 when it arrives next year. Nintendo also confirmed there is an upcoming sequel to the Yo-Kai Watch series Yo-Kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain, currently in development, though no further details were shared.

By far my favorite announcement was the new trailer for Metroid: Ravenous. This is a new 2D Metroid game similar to Metroid Dread, and it looks amazing. The plot takes place on a hostile moon that Samus finds herself trapped on and must contend against the aggressive, monstrous natives while using a new draining ability. The game is set to release January 28th, 2027.

The direct then focused once more on some upcoming remasters and updates for current titles. The upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis remake is coming to Switch 2 on February 12th, while Mario Kart World will receive a big new free update. This will add ten retro courses from Super Mario Kart alongside two new knockout courses. The update is currently live.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort received a new trailer confirming open exploration of the island and also showcasing a new single-player mode called Island Crown. This lets you compete in special ranked competitions for a chance to battle the island champion for each individual sport. The game will also feature enhanced customization options for Mii avatars. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort releases October 22nd.

Mega Man: Duel Override was confirmed for Switch and Switch 2 in Spring 2027. The latest entry offers not only Proto Man as a playable character but a new form called Override mode, which allows Mega Man to unlock new powers.

Fatal Fury: City of Wolves is coming to Switch 2 on October 22nd alongside 2 DLC Characters from the popular Tokyo Revengers Manga series. Nintendo also confirmed a remastered collection of the Metal Slug series, which features ten games and also offers online co-op and a gallery mode. The collection is arriving next year.

Another remaster that I am particularly excited for is Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force, a remaster of Tag Force 3 which will be coming out for Switch and Switch 2 on February 16th. The remaster will also support online multiplayer.

There was no shortage of JRPGs at this direct with a great mix of new and old titles. Romancing Saga 3: Destinies United is coming on February 16th, featuring new visuals, full voice acting, and a new soundtrack, while Persona 4 Revival is releasing May 20th, 2027. Eternal Anima is an upcoming RPG from developer Marvelous, which takes place in an undersea world and boasts some deep turn-based combat. The game is set to release on March 4th, 2027. Lastly, there was the exciting confirmation from Atlas that Persona 6 is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2, though no release date or gameplay as of now.

This direct wrapped up with an onslaught of confirmations and release dates for various indie and AAA third-party titles that will be coming to Switch 2. All of these are older games, though highlights include the likes of 007: First Light releasing this year, Stellar Blade Releasing November 5th, and It Takes Two on October 15th.

Finally, this direct concluded with the announcement and reveal trailer for Kirby and the World Beyond. This is a brand new 3d Kirby game featuring what looks to be a fully open world, which will be a first for the series. The game is set to release in spring 2027.
