Bubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble, Gamescom flows and news desks rumble. Okay, so maybe that didn’t work as well as I hoped, but it gets the point across. I love a good bit of witchy fun, and a new bit of Gamescom news has tickled my interest.
Realmforge Studios and Kalypso Media have announced their upcoming witchy action-adventure, titled Rise of the Spellbaker. This new game set in a world of witchcraft, fairy tales, and baked goods is definitely interesting. Here is what the press release says about the new game coming to PC and consoles next year:

“Publisher Kalypso Media and Realmforge Studios, acclaimed developers of the Dungeons series, have today announced their new title Rise of the Spellbaker, set in a world full of magic, fairy tales, and the delightful smells of freshly baked goods.
Coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and PlayStation®5 in 2027, Rise of the Spellbaker follows a Witch who finds herself the sole survivor of an unknown plague. With only her loyal cat familiar by her side, she must set forth into the corrupted land and fight back the insatiable Rot by awakening the powerful magic of spellbaking from forgotten recipes.

In a time when the world was still wild and full of magic, the Witch lived a calm and peaceful life in harmony with all creatures and humans. Until one pristine autumn day, when the Witches of Khemia gathered to celebrate their annual Harvest Festival, since the fateful events of that day, an unnamed rot has swept through the land, and its architect remains a dreadful mystery.
Now, Khemia has been transformed from a home that was once light, sweet[,] and colourful into a dark, fetid, and dismal place infested with dangerous creatures such as the Skullopod and Big Mouth, all overshadowed by an unfathomable presence looming in the background.

To reclaim Khemia from the Rot and defeat the evil mastermind pulling the strings, the Witch must rediscover and develop her forgotten magic talent: spellbaking. Discover new recipes, gather ingredients, and knead them into powerful pastries such as the Crescent Wave or Shortcrust Grenade to roast your enemies.
On her journey, she’ll team up with a band of unlikely allies including Hermann, the talking sourdough, the floury little Biscies, and her loyal Cat Familiar, all of whom will help her face the challenges ahead. Whilst back in the village, players can furnish and decorate the Witch’s house and turn the village back into a safe haven to return to during their adventures.

For those looking to face the Rot together, the coven allows players to gather with up to five other surviving witches in multiplayer and divide the tasks between the group and work together to defeat the Rot.”
I’m really curious about Rise of the Spellbaker. Fans of all things witchy have been well fed with things like Warlock and 1666: Amsterdam in the works or being released. This is just another great example of a colorful, unique take on things, and I’m eager to see more.
