If you’re a Pokémon fanatic, chances are you’re still working your way through Pokémon PokopiaOne major feature of that game is actually the lack of a staple in the Pokémon games: battling. Well, anyone missing out on this feature of the series is in luck since Pokémon Champions has launched, and literally only features battling. Fans logging onto their Nintendo Switch to download the game might see an option for the Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack, and it might be worth a pick-up. Here’s what’s included in the bundle.

The Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle includes the following items for $6.99 USD:

  • Storage space for 50 additional Pokémon
  • 30 Teammate Tickets
  • 50 Training Tickets
  • The “Battle! (Trainer Battle)” song featured in the Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! games

Storage space and a song are self-explanatory, but what are the other two items you get in this pack? Let’s talk about how they play a role in the game.

What are Teammate Tickets in Pokémon Champions

Pokémon Champions game is all about battling with Pokémon. This includes single and double battles that use familiar mechanics from previous Pokémon series games, such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves. If you’ve ever watched competitive play in things like Pokémon World Championships, you know that so much goes into setting up a successful squad. If you’re someone like me who tends just to spam attacks in battle against the CPU, you’ll find in this style of play that it’s not as simple as mashing moves that cause damage.

While you can transfer your favorites to Pokémon Champions via Pokémon HOME, so long as the Pokémon appear in Pokémon Champions, many of the Pokémon you use will be recruited in-game. That’s done through the game’s Roster Ranch. You can recruit Pokémon by using Victory Points (VP) to select from a roster of random Pokémon. You’ll be able to meet a new lineup of Pokémon without using VP every 22 hours. Victory Points can only be earned through battles, daily missions, and events, so it can be a bit time-consuming to cultivate. Use a Teammate Ticket to skip the need to cultivate and spend VP, and immediately add a Pokémon to your team!

What are Training Tickets in Pokémon Champions

As you continue to hone your team for victory, you can use VP to increase and adjust your Pokémon’s Attack, Defense, and other stats. You can even alter their Abilities and moves. So long as they’re a permanent member of your roster, you can adjust their status. If you’re short on VP, you can train them for at no cost to your Victory Points by using a Training Ticket.

Between the Training Tickets and Teammate Tickets, I find the $7 USD price tag to be fair for what I’m hoping to get out of the game. That’ll be up to each trainer, however. Pokémon Champions and the Pokémon Champions + Starter Pack bundle are available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Let us know in the comments if you plan to give the game a go!
