The LEGO Batman games, similarly to the Star Wars series, are among the best toy-to-game adaptations of all time. There is a signature style and flair to the LEGO Batman games in particular, thanks to the number of releases over the years, as well as the feature film. With a new game coming this May, Warner Bros. Games and TT Games are working to drum up excitement by hopping on the Free Comic Book Day bandwagon. Here’s what we know about the upcoming comic book you can snag at your local shop on May 2.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will receive a comic book tie-in, a new, standalone LEGO Batman story based on the upcoming video game. The comic will be available on May 2 in celebration of Free Comic Book Day, also known as FCBD. Titled The LEGO Batman Returns, the comic follows a day in the life of LEGO Batman as he returns to Gotham City after a hiatus and encounters a variety of familiar DC characters, paying homage to the Dark Knight’s history in media, with references to past films, television shows, and comic books, combined with signature LEGO humor.
There’s something that just feels comfortingly familiar about the LEGO games, including how they leverage the games’ silliness to bring out the best in our favorite IP. A comic tie-in is a great way to drum up interest in the game, which was already a huge hit at Gamescom 2025 when first announced. Twenty days after the comic releases, fans will get their hands on the game, which tells a fun story of our favorite caped crusader. The game will begin with the origins of Batman as a young Bruce Wayne training with the League of Shadows. From there, we’ll see him become the hero of Gotham City and forge a new family of allies with Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and his allies.

The LEGO Batman Returns is written by Ivan Cohen (Beware the Batman), with art by Paul Lee (Batman: Under the Hood). Are you counting down the days until LEGO Batman legitimately returns in the form of a new game? Let us know in the comments if you’re excited about this upcoming TT Games and Warner Bros. Games release! LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches worldwide on May 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
