Sometimes, I miss the days of classic mascot platformers. Sure, we still get Sonic and Mario games, but there is something about classic games like Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot that aren’t captured anymore. Now, the developers at Polycast Labs have announced a release date for their upcoming Mascot Platformer, Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares.
Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares will be released on October 30th, 2026. Currently, there is only an announcement for PC, but that may change between now and launch. Here is what the press release says about the upcoming release:
“Indie game studio Polycast Labs is thrilled to announce that its upcoming nightmarish 3D platformer, Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares, will officially launch on Windows, Mac[,] and Linux (Steam) on October 30, 2026. Priced at $19.95 USD, this nostalgia-infused action-adventure blends the freeform exploration and verticality of classic platformers with a dreamy, circus-meets-Halloween atmosphere.
In Bobo and the Chest of Nightmares, players step into the pointy shoes of Bobo, a clumsy but golden-hearted jester. During a circus performance gone wrong, Bobo accidentally opens the legendary Nightmare Chest, freeing the ancient Dreammaster who twists the kingdom’s dreams into living nightmares. Guided by a floating DreamMask, players must leap, glide, rail-grind, and puzzle their way through corrupted dreamworlds to recover lost EchoMares and restore laughter to a world frozen in eternal twilight.”

David Ho, Founder of Polycast Labs, commented on the announcement, stating: “The game started from a love for the classic 3D platformers I grew up with, like Spyro the Dragon and MediEvil, which had colorful worlds and gameplay that felt playful but still challenging.
Bobo isn’t a warrior or a hero by design. He’s clumsy, expressive, and out of his depth. This made him feel relatable and allowed the game to focus on acrobatics, exploration, and discovery rather than combat alone.“

I’m eager to see how Polycast Labs has molded Bobo’s adventure. October 30th is a ways away, but I’m still eager to check it out. Hopefully, we’ll get some kind of demo between now and then.
