Therapy is important. Lately, I’m beginning to think that we all need it, even if it’s just for a safe space away from the noise. However, what happens when your therapist is cheating? Cointinue Games is sort of answering that question with their latest project, Midnight Therapy.

The Steam Page for Midnight Therapy has just launched, revealing new details about Cointinue Games’ latest project. We don’t have a release date (or even a window) yet, but there are some interesting details available. Here is what the press release says about the latest reveal:

“Cointinue Games, the indie studio behind the critically acclaimed narrative game Midnight Ramen and the productivity RPG Deadline Savior, today officially unveiled the Steam store page for their latest title, Midnight Therapy.

Continuing the studio’s expanding ‘Prometheus’ universe, Midnight Therapy blends deep narrative storytelling with unique ‘mind-diving’ mechanics, inviting players to explore the complex, often contradictory nature of the modern human condition.

While Midnight Ramen warmed the hearts of souls filled with regret through food, Midnight Therapy shifts the stage to a bustling yet isolating modern metropolis.

Players take on the role of Pyrra Gray, an elite therapist known for her high fees, sharp professionalism, and incredible efficiency.

However, Pyrra hides a massive secret: her success isn’t due to skill, but magic. She has been using spells to forcibly erase her patients’ negative emotions. That is, until a mission goes awry, and her magic is completely sealed.

Now, stripped of her ‘cheat codes,’ Pyrra must face an endless stream of broken patients—and crushing financial pressure—using nothing but her wits and words.

Midnight Therapy breaks the mold of traditional visual novels by integrating light deduction and resource management elements into its core gameplay:

You must find the cracks in a patient’s dialogue and deduce the truth hidden in their silence. By collecting topics from the city streets and honing your conversational skills, you will lower their defenses and guide them to face truths they’ve long ignored.

When a patient falls into severe ‘Cognitive Dissonance,’ you will use your slowly recovering magic to dive into their subconscious. In this 2.5D mental world, abstract traumas manifest as physical obstacles. You must use logic and Soul Power to break through their mental defenses.

As a ‘fake’ therapist, the struggle for bread is real. Weekly rent and monthly medical bills for your brother loom over you like a shadow. You must make difficult choices with limited time and energy: Do you offer sloppy, quick treatments to make a buck? Or do you exhaust yourself to uncover the truth?

When Pyrra hits a wall, she finds an unlikely ally in Homura, the owner of a ramen stall that only opens at midnight. They strike a deal: Pyrra teaches Homura how to cast spells, and Homura teaches Pyrra how to truly ‘read the human heart.’”

The producer from Cointinue Games also commented on the latest news, stating:

“If Midnight Ramen was a story about learning to say a gentle goodbye, then Midnight Therapy is about finding the courage to face the naked truth. We want to explore the stories of those who feel trapped, codependent, or weighed down by regrets they cannot let go.”

Currently, there is no release date for Midnight Therapy. After enjoying Vampire Therapist, this concept makes me curious to see what Cointinue Games has in store for players. It is a different concept from a different developer, but the concept of therapy used in a game format still intrigues me.
