There are certain games I love seeing people get excited over, especially the ones that generally mean very little to me. The response from gamers at the announcement of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was a perfect example. The game wasn’t something that caught my eye, nor does it pull at any nostalgia I have for the series. Instead, seeing everyone talk about how thrilled they were helped make me a potential convert, and I have a much better idea of what to expect now, thanks to the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Direct. Here’s a full rundown of what was covered.

For the first time in more than 10 years, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will allow players to create a slew of Mii characters and have them in an island habitat of sorts to peer down on like some Godlike figure. Customization goes right down to their personalities, little quirks, and living spaces. From there, you watch and see what they’ll get up to. You will have some role to play, offering the occasional nudge to divulge what’s on their minds, help them solve life’s problems, cultivate their friendships, and more.
Time passes like the real world, too, so they’ll continue in their little world when you’re playing just the same as when you’re not. The Direct featured information on character creation, which, interestingly, can be done from scratch or through a series of questions. Some of the fun appears to be making Miis that look like your friends and family, as well as the atrocities that send me back to the Nintendo Wii days of making the most messed-up creatures I could.

By bringing Miis together on the island in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, you can help them make friends. Eight Miis can live as roommates, and all of them will have various things they like to do with their time. This includes shopping for food, picking clothes, refurbishing home furnishings, and more. On top of these activities, you’ll also help them live the best island life possible by building elements for the island, including clothing, furniture, and food, using the Palette House Workshop.

The game will cost $60 and launch on April 16th. I think for fans of the franchise, it’d be wasted screen space to type out why they’ll likely be on board. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream appears to be everything you’d want from a modern version of this game. For those like me who are somewhat interested, I think this Direct goes a long way in showing what’s waiting for the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream experience. Consider me sold!
