One of the things I love about the work we do at Phenixx Gaming is that we all know each other well enough that if we see something one of us might be into, we pass it along. Keiran (our managing editor) saw a press release for Fortune Seller and immediately knew it would be right up my alley. He was correct, as Fortune Seller is a mix of Strange Antiquities, Balatro, and the inventory management of Resident Evil.
Yes, I am aware that those 3 things sound like they have nothing to do with each other, but bear with me. In Fortune Seller, you run an antique shop for a mysterious (and possibly dangerous) landlord. You sell items to customers by arranging them into the sale box, trying to match item types with the correct spots to rack up positive modifiers such as multipliers. If you reach the quota by the end of the sale period (usually 3 days), you move on to the next quota. If not, you lose the run and presumably die.

After each day, you’re able to use the shop, where you purchase things such as spell cards and tarot cards, which can modify all sorts of aspects of your items. The goal is to build up a varied sort of synergy between your items so that you can make enough money to reach the ever-growing quota demands of your boss.
Only one particular item set (sort of like a deck) is available in the demo, but it provides a solid proof of concept. The game itself plays well and has that “one more run” feeling to it. Additionally, Fortune Seller oozes a sort of aesthetic, mystical yet creepy vibe. The mix of tarot with menacing elements, such as the blood moon on certain nights, really gives a sense of dread if you don’t fill your quota on time.

At the same time, the art style and music are both great. I won’t say that the music is breathtaking, but I enjoyed listening as I made my way through each day. Overall, the vibes of Fortune Seller are good, and I’m excited to see more.
For now, we don’t have a firm release date or release window for Fortune Seller. However, if you’re looking for a new Rogue-like that’s a little different, the Strange Antiquities vibe of Fortune Seller isn’t one to miss. Check out the demo and wishlist it on Steam, you won’t be disappointed.
