Deck Nine announced a new Life is Strange game, coming our way on March 26, 2026, and published by Square Enix. In the new game, players will once again visit Caledon University, where Max Caulfield teaches photography. Returning from a weekend away, Max finds Caledon ablaze, as a fire burns not only the school but those she loves most inside of it. Max only escapes the devastation thanks to her Rewind power, a supernatural ability that lets her reverse time, returning from the original Life is Strange.

When she jumps back, however, she’s shocked to see Chloe arrive after the merging of the timelines at the end of Double Exposure. Haunted by nightmares of a past she never lived, and with her grip on reality unravelling, Chloe needs Max’s help. For the very first time in the series, players can play as both Max and Chloe in the same game, alternating between their different perspectives as the story unfolds. If you’re a little lost, don’t worry. The blending of timelines and the inclusion of alternate endings are making it tough to follow, but I’m still intrigued nonetheless.

Fan reaction to this will be interesting, given that Double Exposure got such mixed reactions in 2024. Diehard fans didn’t love the alterations Deck Nine made to the gameplay loop, and many were skeptical that the writing of the game was doing its smaller scope and scale any favors.

In my review of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, I scored the game a 6.5/10. My biggest issue with the experience was that “decisions feel like they mean less in Life is Strange: Double Exposure because they do so for the sake of what Deck Nine is setting out to achieve.” I’m hopeful that feedback on the last entry, much of which was lukewarm, will help Deck Nine return a bit more to the emergent storytelling, rather than simply pushing players forward with a false sense of impact over the game’s eventual conclusion.

You can watch the full reveal, which was originally livestreamed, below. Let us know in the comments if you’re excited for another adventure with Chloe and Max, or if you feel a little sour by the last entry.
