Every time I get enough in to say a day’s push will get me over the line, when it comes to reviews/previews like Assetto Corsa EVO, there is an update. After update 3, I spent a few days really going hard on the tires and getting back in, then I had to talk about the multiplayer controversy, and it slowed down. Now, this morning, while working, update 4 appeared in my Steam downloads, and the press release appeared in my emails around the same time. So, let’s talk about it!

Global Publisher 505 Games and developer KUNOS Simulazioni are pleased to announce that Assetto Corsa EVO, currently available on Steam in Early Access, giving a chance to all players to get the game at a discounted price while the game gets developed towards its complete version, receives its fourth update (v.0.4) today,” notes the press release. “This release marks the richest in terms of content and one of the most significant milestones yet on the road to a full 1.0 launch.

The press release continues with, “This latest update expands the driving experience with 10 new iconic vehicles, in several mechanical versions and 5 legendary circuits in several layouts, all laser scanned – including the Nürburgring Nordschleife and the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.” Later it continues on to note that there is “also substantial upgrades to physics, audio, the user interface, and overall visuals, further elevating Assetto Corsa EVO as it advances toward becoming the most sophisticated driving simulation ever produced.

So, what is the update? What are the cars, and where is the full list of circuits in this update? Well, we have three layouts of the Nürburgring-Nordschliefe, with the Nürburgring having two layouts of its own. Autodromo Nazionale di Monza is only one layout, because apparently no one likes fun and flying off the banking in VR. I’m joking, but as the type of psycho to do that in a modern F1 car for the giggles, it would have been fun. Sticking with F1 adjacent, Oulton Park has two layouts, though I don’t know that there are many GB3 cars on offer. The final track is IMSA staple and NASCAR-owned, Road Atlanta.

With 10 cars with 13 variations, it is a bit more spread out: With the Toyota Supra Turbo RZ (MK IV), Renault 5 GT Turbo, Peugeot 205 T16, BMW M3, and M8 Competition Coupé on offer, alongside the Mini John Cooper S and Ferrari Daytona SP3 rounding out the road cars. Insurance can’t moan at me for crashing these Minis. For GT cars, we have the Ferrari F40 LM for fans of driving what was on your bedroom wall instead of half-naked women, and the Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 RS for something a bit more modern. That’s only 9, though.

With the season ending this weekend with a three-way title fight in the Middle East, you too could qualify P19 alongside Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari SF-25. Don’t worry, I’ve got an industrial-sized bin just for this occasion. I only use it for all the utterly stupid nonsense certain groups of F1 fans seem to think is important, like sending a teenager death threats. Yes, this year’s – to be polite to Fred – red bin lorry is still fast, but I’ll admit that it does underperform for what team it is.

Assetto Corsa EVO‘s Update 4 is available right now and brings a large amount of important and interesting additions to the floor. I will hold my opinion on the multiplayer integration for the preview piece, but the press release does note: “Another cornerstone in the evolution of Assetto Corsa EVO is laid with the debut of the Daily Racing Portal (acevo.gg) and GridRating system[,] which further improves EVO’s multiplayer functionalities[,] introducing Ranked racing and allowing all players to engage every day with breath-taking competitive races.”

You can check out Assetto Corsa EVO in early access right now on Steam with a limited-time 20% discount on the standard price of $39.99/€39.99/£32.99. However, you could also get a further 10% off with the bundle of Assetto Corsa EVO and the newly announced and released Assetto Corsa Rally on Steam, too. Don’t expect a review of Assetto Corsa Rally; trying to keep up to date and decent enough with EVO is sufficiently difficult.
