As a (some might say obnoxious) fan of the classic JRPG franchises of yesteryear, I keep an eye on a lot of RPGs. My favorites are the Turn-based kind, usually involving party management, stats, and inventory management. Stories of Somnia caught my attention, as it blends Turn-Based RPG elements with Real-time, which is something I’ve noticed more and more lately.
Developer Lydian Games is working on Stories of Somnia, and has announced that it will be coming to PC in 2026. The Publisher, Monster Theater, recently worked on The Dark Queen of Mortholme, which is also interesting and subverts expectations. Stories of Somnia’s Paper Mario-esque visual vibe, mixed with RPG mechanics and a blend of Turn-based and Real-time concepts is definitely interesting. Here is what the press release had to say about the announcement:
“Monster Theater, hot off the success of publishing The Dark Queen of Mortholme, is excited to announce that Stories of Somnia, a turn-based RPG with real-time mechanics developed by the team over at Lydian Games, will be launching under their publishing label in 2026 as the third Monster Theater game.
Stories of Somnia is a 20 to 30-hour exploration-first, story-rich adventure that blends turn-based RPG structure with real-time mechanics. Players use Arts to traverse environments, solve puzzles, and combine abilities with Dreamkin companions to overcome the world consumed by Gloam.

Stories of Somnia marks another step forward for Monster Theater’s commitment to championing moodier, atmospheric indie worlds and the talented micro-teams behind them. As Lydian Games continues refining Stories of Somnia through active playtesting, Monster Theater is gearing up to help bring the finished experience to players in 2026.”
While we do not have a large amount of detail beyond what was provided in the press release, I’m very excited about Stories of Somnia. The dev team clearly has a vision in mind, and Monster Theater has worked on two intriguing games prior to this, so I’m curious to see how their publishing work continues. Hopefully, we’ll get a demo of some kind soon, or even better, a release date.
