Amongst the many childhood shows I loved as a kid, I was a fan of a lot of Nicktoons series. The Fairly Odd Parents was a big one for me, as well as Avatar: The Last Airbender and Rugrats. So, when I heard about Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny, I was instantly curious. I wouldn’t say it is among the best of 2025’s offerings, but there is a bit of childhood whimsy here. Let’s get into it!
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny takes place after one of Timmy Turner’s regularly scheduled (poorly thought-out) wishes, which causes him, Cosmo, and Wanda to be pulled into a fantasy game similar to Dungeons & Dragons. For some reason, other Nicktoons characters have also been pulled from their worlds.
As one of five starting characters (and a total of nine), you’ll be able to explore various Nicktoons-inspired fantasy areas to acquire the Dice of Destiny. Hopefully, with all the dice gathered together, you’ll be able to send everyone home. Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is playable in single-player or with up to 3 other players. Truth be told, it is obvious that the game was designed for multiplayer, but it is still fun for solo players.
Each character has their own set of six unlockable skills, along with a basic dodge and basic attack. You can also find equipment for them, with stats that increase with better equipment levels. The RPG mechanics are fairly light and easy to understand, but aren’t all that exciting either. You can upgrade things like your potions etc, but everything is simple enough that you could play with younger kids and everyone would enjoy themselves.
The real draw here is the multiplayer aspect, and the fact that the story was crafted with the Nickelodeon style and flair. Bosses are clever foes from the Nickelodeon series, and there are references to Nickelodeon characters and series all over the place. There are even some animated scenes that could easily be pulled right from various series, such as SpongeBob SquarePants or The Fairly OddParents.
There are some performance issues on the Nintendo Switch, though. I’ve had a few instances of lag in busy areas, and certain cutscenes have had a weird visual stuttering. I’m not sure if that is something persistent across all platforms, though; it could just be a Switch issue. I’m playing on the Switch 2, though, so it definitely isn’t a hardware problem in terms of processing power.
Overall, I can easily see Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny being a great family game. If you have some kids in your life who love things like SpongeBob SquarePants, it’d be a great game to get them used to action RPGs as well. However, if you are looking for a deep, indulgent, engrossing action RPG like Diablo or Path of Exile, you’ll be looking for that elsewhere.
