It might be crisis mode at Xbox as Game Pass subscription costs rise, but one element of the service they do understand well is the value proposition of cloud gaming on mobile devices. It’s pretty smooth and works well, but many gamers will still prioritize the experience they can download once, keep on their phones, and turn to at a moment’s notice to pass the time or sneak in some leisure hours during their day. As more of my gaming seems to be moving to mobile, with me being on the go more often, we’re returning this October to explore the mobile games of the moment! Here’s what’s on my radar for the month:
Piffle+ – Hipster Whale
Apple Arcade fans are getting an ad-free version of Hipster Whale’s cat-themed block-breaking game. If you haven’t spent time with Piffle, I do think it catches a really great combination of great art style and recognizable game mechanics. It’s sort of exactly what I like to keep on my phone at any time for short game sessions. With hundreds of levels and a ton of cute suits to wear, you’ll collect and crash your way through a battle against Doc Block. The game is out now for Apple Arcade subscribers, alongside a few other October additions to the subscription service, including the mobile version of NBA 2K26.
Ash of Gods: Redemption – AurumDust
Now available on both Google Play and iOS, Ash of Gods: Redemption is a rework of the 2018 turn-based game available on essentially every platform imaginable. Based on community feedback, the game features more intuitive AI enemies, a revitalized combat and traversal system, and a smooth 60 FPS on mobile. As a huge fan of remakes and reimaginings, I love that this version also includes the original game, preserving the ability for fans to still experience the title the way they remember if they played it years ago. Android users can play a demo before purchasing on Google Play.
Hitman: Absolution – Feral Interactive
IO Interactive’s mid-2010s Hitman games have been making their way to mobile devices via Feral Interactive, and 2012’s Hitman Absolution is next in line for iOS and Android. I’m not going out on a limb by saying that the recent trilogy of games that began in 2016 to reboot the series is the cream of the crop for the franchise. Absolution, however, is the key element of a Hitman game you’re looking for, and well worth revisiting in 2025. The game will arrive on mobile on October 16, and will undoubtedly be in my rotation of fall games to play while on the train or gaming on my iPhone.
