On September 24, Sony hosted a State of Play to give updates on third-party partners’ games as well as their own projects. There are always plenty of guesses ahead of one of these events, but one of the most popular predictions for this event’s lineup actually showed up! From Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine to a remake I’m particularly thrilled to see in the works, here are the headlines from the September Sony State of Play.
The presentation for the September Sony State of Play began with Housemarque’s follow-up to the absolutely fantastic Returnal. Along with gameplay, we heard from the developers about the story taking place in the game, which includes a return to the roguelike game loop. As you traverse the planet Carcosa as Arjun Devraj, played by Rahul Kohli, you’ll explore biomes, a diverse set of enemies, and plenty of surprises. The game will launch on March 20.
We also saw ZA/UM’s next game, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, as well as the December 5 release announcement of Xbox Game Studios’ Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PlayStation 5. After a new trailer for Battlefield 6, a brand new trailer for Halloween: The Game was also showed, just under a year from the game’s September 8th, 2026 release date. For fans of the series, we also learned that Deus Ex Remastered is on the way, arriving on February 5, 2026.
PlayStation players learned they’d get a chance to check out The Last Epoch, a hack-and-slash game for PC that is arriving on the console with its first expansion. The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin was shown next, pleasing fans of the hit manga and anime series when it arrives January 28th, 2026. Next, we learned that Mega Man and Protoman will come to Sonic Racing: Crossworld next year, and then we got a glimpse at the recently leaked Nioh 3, coming February 6th, 2028. It was a bummer this one didn’t get kept secret until today, but it looks fantastic nonetheless.
In what was easily my favorite surprise of the show, Koei Tecmo followed up the Nioh 3 trailer with a reveal for Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered. I’m a huge Dynasty Warriors sicko, and after loving this year’s Dynasty Warriors: Origins, I’m excited for more musou action. Trailers for Code Vein 2, releasing January 30, 2026, and a brief commentary on the release of Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered followed.
Grasshoppers Studio revealed a PvPvE roguelite action game called Let It Die: Inferno, which didn’t really do much for me. That said, the next game, Chronoscript: The Endless End, was very much my jam. The game is a 2D action-adventure game that unfolds across pages in a book, following the player character as they move throughout the pages. Next, Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert got another trailer ahead of its March 19th, 2026, release. And, if that’s not getting you excited, the next reveal sure will.
The PULSE Elevate Wireless Speakers from Sony will feature a built-in microphone and be compatible with the PS5, the PS Portal, and a PC. Sony has a knack for revealing hardware that nobody needs, but huge fans will absolutely purchase without hesitation. Hey, it’s more practical than the talking flower from the recent Nintendo Direct.
Along with the speakers, we received a few announcements regarding the PlayStation+ game catalog, as well as additions to the Classics catalog. We then learned that Gran Turismo has sold over 100 million units and discovered a major update coming to Gran Turismo 7 this December, featuring eight new vehicles and new circuits.
The penultimate reveal, which honestly shocked me, wasn’t the highly rumored God of War 2D game, but a 20th anniversary controller instead! I was disappointed, so I know the massive fans of the series were livid. Still, the controller looks wonderful. It’s hard to argue that there aren’t great things coming out for PlayStation, especially with the last reveal at the September 2025 Sony State of Play and the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, but still. We need this 2D Kratos adventure!
Lastly, we got our look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the next game from Insomniac. I must have yelled at least four exclamations of shock during this trailer because the blood and violence are turned up to 11. It’s sort of refreshing compared to the duller action of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, but wow, if you’re not into slashing and cutting up bad guys, this game isn’t for you.
If you are into that, and you want a fun X-Men character tease, watch the trailer above and mark your calendars for the broad window of Fall 2026. Because why would we get a reveal date when we know so much can still go wrong? Sony is learning, like other studios, not to get ahead of themselves, and it’s a smart move.
