City-building games are usually known for crafting a slowly expanding locale, starting from a central point and expanding outward. However, have you ever experienced a city-builder expanding vertically? Well, Stargate Games intends to offer you a chance to do just that, with Stario: Haven Tower.

Stario: Haven Tower will launch in Early Access on September 25th, 2025, following an announcement made late last week. You’ll be able to check out the game at a $13.99 price point, though it will be discounted 10 percent for the first two weeks of availability. Here is what the press release says about Stario: Haven Tower:

Stario: Haven Tower reimagines the city-building genre by focusing all the complexity and wonder of urban management into a single, ever-rising tower. Players must expand upward through shifting skies and hostile conditions, balancing survival, growth, and the hopes of their Towertizens.

Stario: Haven Tower takes place after a cataclysm that nearly destroyed human civilisation. According to prophecy, the last survivors, the ‘Towertizens,’ must build a colossal tower that reaches into the heavens to restore humanity’s glory. As players guide their people floor by floor, the tower will face relentless natural disasters. Simultaneously, Towertizens will need more goods to support life as they climb farther from the ground. Careful planning and resource management are key to constructing seven monumental Miracle Towers and leading the community toward a new beginning.

The game blends post-apocalyptic survival with a surprisingly pastoral aesthetic. Each biome has its own ecosystem, shaping how resources are gathered. Jellyfish Quartz is plentiful in Mist Zones, while Manta Rays thrive in Rain Zones and provide specialised materials. This contrast between harsh disasters and idyllic scenery creates a striking world. Every section of the tower feels distinct, and Early Access adds richer decorative buildings along with the Miracle Tower system, making towers both functional and beautiful.

Unlike traditional city builders that expand outward, Stario focuses on vertical construction. But it is more than just stacking floors. Resource management drives every decision, from sustaining daily life to fueling ambitious projects. Ecosystem bonuses, tower effects, and intricate recipes all push players to experiment with efficient layouts. Logistics are another challenge. Each floor stores resources independently, and carriers automatically move goods to where they are needed. But carriers are slow and limited, often leading to food shortages below and stalled construction above. Players must unlock advanced logistics technologies to design smarter, tower-wide supply chains.

For those seeking greater depth, Early Access introduces the Ritual system, with 13 unique rituals that provide different buffs. Structural options like diagonal braces and frameworks also give more freedom in tower design, allowing creative builds that stretch both upward and outward.

Stario draws creative inspiration from many sources. Ted Chiang’s Tower of Babylon, Tsutomu Nihei’s Tower Dungeon, and the limitless treehouses of Minecraft all shaped its vision. The game also borrows from bold architectural concepts of ‘vertical megastructures’ and ‘vertical cities.’ This mix of literature, manga, games, and real-world ideas gives Stario its humanistic tone. It is a city builder not only about survival, but about hope and imagination.

The development team intends for Stario to be in Early Access somewhere between 6 months to a year. The full version will include a better sandbox mode, new buildings, optimizations, and adjustments due to player feedback. Overall, now is the perfect time to check out Stario at its earliest point, as the price will increase when the game is fully finished. I’m curious about Stario: Haven Tower, and I will definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
