There’s a lot of nostalgia for Twisted Metal right now, thanks to the absolutely better-than-it-ought-to-be Peacock show. While Sony hasn’t decided the Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz-led show is enough to green-light a new game, one independent studio in Canada is gearing up to fill the car combat-sized hole in our hearts. Mad Metal, a game inspired by Twisted Metal, Mad Max, and Carmageddon, wears its inspiration on its sleeve as it launches a Kickstarter campaign and offers a range of really great options to support the project. Here’s what we know so far!

Canadian Studio Mad Mechs is looking to develop an open-world, destructible car combat game with a ton of fun influences added into the mix. With car designs inspired by The Fast & The FuriousTransformers, and more, the game appears to be a melding of several great IPs with a fantastic concept at its core. According to the developer’s press release on Kickstarter, the team isn’t shying away from what inspires them either. “Our goal is to bring back the golden era of vehicle combat games,” notes Mad Mechs developer Hakim Elayday. “Despite the fond memories we’ve had growing up with these games from the ’90s to the mid-2010s, we haven’t seen much buzz around the vehicle combat genre for several decades.”

The game was announced in March, but the developer is now seeking to start raising funds to the tune of a $13,500 Canadian Dollars (CAD) goal. Rewards include all the essentials: the game, starting at $24.99 USD (with normalized regional pricing), custom vehicle skins and weapons, die-cast vehicle models, and the ability to contribute to the design of the game’s characters, vehicles, campaigns, and more. An $80,000 CAD stretch goal will introduce local and online multiplayer to the game, enabling maximum destruction on a global scale. As of now, the project has seven backers but is sure to gain more as players hear about the project.

Mad Metal is planned for release on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 starting in Q4 2025. Does a game like this seem like something you’d be interested in checking out? Let us know in the comments if you plan to back it, cheer for it on the sidelines, or sit this chaotic car brawl out for the time being.
