Well, this was kind of expected, wasn’t it? Following the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong releasing next week, some games are, of course,e jumping out of the way the same way they do with a new COD, Battlefield, and of course, GTA. After Team Cherry announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong is to release on the 4th of September, it was almost inevitable that Necrosoft Games and Ysbryd Games’ Demonschool, previously set to release on September 3rd, would jump out of the way. Hell, even TEAM PEAK added an in-game message about everyone leaving to play Silksong.
In a post on Steam, the team and particularly Brian from Ysbryd Games noted: “Demonschool was set to launch on Sept 3[rd], but after much anguished consideration (and screaming, and teeth gnashing etc) on our part, we’ve made the decision to move the game’s release to Wednesday, Nov 19[th], 2025.” A decision that we know very much wasn’t one that the team wanted to make, but if we’re honest, that’s the best option, not just for Necrosoft but for everyone.
The update from the perspective of Ysbryd Games goes on to say, “With 11 years under our belt as an indie publisher, we at Ysbryd Games are reasonably qualified to say that any point of 2025, on balance, has been or will be as brutal as market conditions can get when it comes to releasing a game. The joke got more cruel when we found out with such short notice that Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch just one day after our planned release for Demonschool.
We have to remind ourselves that gaining visibility for Demonschool is our main goal. Thus, the Ysbryd team strongly believes we would not be doing Demonschool any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red. If the September period is going to be Silksong’s moment, then we need to be elsewhere on the calendar to give Demonschool its own moment to be seen and talked about meaningfully.“
Personally, it is a little disheartening to know Demonschool is getting another delay, but I’m not blaming either Necrosoft or Ysbryd Games, nor am I blaming Team Cherry. It is a fact that some games are massively popular before release, and the hype surrounding them. Understandably, the team wanted to get out of the way of the oncoming train that was Silksong‘s suddenly announced release, and without hyperbole, it is now Silksong‘s release just as May 2026 (currently) is GTA VI‘s release.
I am massively excited for Demonschool when it releases on November 19th, 2025 for Windows PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, and Xbox Series X|S. Admittedly, Demonschool was just slightly outside of my top three when we did our “Most Wanted of 2025” list, so that’s how disappointed but excited I am. We’ve seen several delays at this point, and though this is one more, I am delighted that this will (hopefully) be the last we see before launch.
